He offered Tua to fire a shot over the bow of Lord Saban. It's mind trickeration at its finest. Make Saban believe Kiffen is Benedict Arnold working against Bama's best interests. He jettisons Kiffen, which benefits O and LSU in getting Kiffen on board much sooner. A side benefit would be Tua following Kiffen with a freshman QB entrenched at Bama. Does that cover all of the conspiracy theory bases?

I commend you on some nice thinking here, but I don't think this was O's plan, nor masterful thinking on his part. Let me explain why:

It would be one thing if O conceived of a great plan such as you suggested, and then FIRST AND FOREMOST called the Brennan family to basically tell them: "I have a plan to thwart Saban, so don't flinch when you see us officially announce an offer to TT."

If that would have happened in that regard, then you wouldn't have seen Brennan's surprised tweets and reactions over that 24 hour span that we all saw.

Even though the Brennan family is publicly stating that they are still "committed"; if nothing else, we at least know that O ruffled some feathers. This is something that you certainly don't do with one of your most, if not most, prized commits.

It might all likely work out in the end to where LSU ends up with Brennan, but we at least soured somewhat our relationship with him. This will undoubtedly cause him to entertain phone calls from other coaches, who will be pressing him hard to join them.

Also, the comments about wanting to move to a dual threat QB... O could have said something along the lines of:
"At LSU, we consistently put more players into the NFL than ANY OTHER college football team. We plan on and fully expect to utilize an offense that will be at the highest level of productivity within the college football game today, while also preparing our athletes for the NFL game, while also showcasing their talents to NFL scouts and evaluators." PERIOD. That's all O could have and should have said.

Whereas before, Brennan was all LSU and was actively recruiting Cam Akers and possibly others, to us. Now, we can just hope that things will once again be restored to this level.

At any rate...

DocRoc...Spot on sir...first and foremost I hope we do not loose him. I wonder what the conversation was between O, Myles and his family and whether it really will make a difference, we will know soon enough. He needs to be the first person our New OC goes to visit for sure and sell the hell out how he plans to use him in our new system. Been a while since we could say we really had an offensive system.

Good point . I think O is trying to get Saban off the spot , so to speak . It's almost like Saban is too comfortable in the pocket , patting the football and looking for a 4th reciever. Don't know if O will be successful or not. I think he is going to do his best to be a pain in Saban's butt.

Does anyone here remember Kiffen and O at Tennessee?
They were late to the party recruiting that year and still pulled 4 & 5 stars from other SEC schools including LSU & Bama at the last minute.

O should go after a couple of Bama coaches like the OL and LB coach (Lutoui or whatever his name is)not only to piss Satan off but they're good coaches and recruiters.

Which is more likely?

1. Saban told Kiffin.. Hey I'll keep you on for 1 more year with a 300k raise if you tell LSU you're going to take offensive coordinator. ANd that TUA will follow you. O offers TUA, loses Brennan. Kiffin announces 2 days before NSD that he's decided to stay at Bama (or take a HC position) and several more recruits flip last minute.

2. Kiffin is coming.. Tua would follow even though Kiffin wasn't his primary recruiter, and he's an EE who is more talented that Hurts.

Never thought anyone would describe O as a genius, much less diabolical on this board...
