According to Shea, the staff has only decided to count back 2 guys to the 2012 class, AJohnson and Fanika.
Anyone have any insight on this? Why are they not counting back 4 spots or are they only able to count back 2?
I would love it if we could count back 4 and possibly have room to sign an extra stud or two in 2014...or even makes it less of a burden if one of our signees doesnt qualify/make it to campus and we lose that schollie.

If true, then that is the answer for Lawson's greyshirt request.
However, if the outstanding LOIs show up: Bain, Robinson and Bower, we would have no room to take Willis.

I don't know, but if this is the case it would be due to the interpretation of making LOI signings equivalent to initial counters.
First it would be stupid for the staff to decide to only backcount 2 if they could do 4, so they are probably relying on others to guide them.
LSU compliance is probably the guide, but it would be stupid of them to make this interpretation without consulting the SEC office.
So the SEC office probably made this ruling. We signed 23 last year to LOI, but only 21 (the initial counters), I think enrolled. If we are only counting back 2, then the LOI is being treated like an initial counter. This means Fanaika and Johnson effectively counted twice.
If this is true, it explains why someone who is not yet qualified may not be allowed to sign and be offered a greyshirt.
