We aren’t winning a bidding war with Texas.

This is what most don’t understand about NIL. It’s the marketing $$ outside of school by the businesses of Alums that are going to be hard to compete with. BU is getting a Barstool contract in addition to Oracle money and I’m sure Texas has plenty of businesses where they can pay big bucks and get a marketing return on the NIL. That just doesn’t exist in Louisiana to the degree of some other schools.
If this is true, LSU should abandon football NIL and use it for baseball and WBB. Create 2 dynasty programs at the expense of football since football can’t compete anyway.
At least with that money we could dominate all of college baseball and WBB while the rich programs sink their money into football.

Then let’s start offering absurd amounts of money to these guys just so they have to counter with an even crazier offer knowing we will lose them. Start making them pay bigger money for these guys. Play to their arrogance.

So, you would undercut the school's biggest revenue earner to support two programs that can't even get close to those earnings levels?

Yes. If we can’t compete in football, then I would 100% support the other programs to build dynasties, especially when we have elite coaches in those sports like Mulkey and Johnson. Both those coaches are better coaches than BK and that’s not debatable. BK plays golf while Jay and Mulkey grind to get elite players

I’m pretty sure it’s much harder to build in football than it is to build in ladies basketball or baseball. Especially with the portal. In the next 3 years I believe BK will have LSU in the playoffs and either win a title or play for one. It’s tough to build this from scratch which is basically what he had to do.

Make up for the Phillips flip and send Jay Johnson to Austin with a big bag.
I'm with you, and it would be FKING hilarious to see it happen. Get the Baseball HC to finalize a deal and steal him from TX. It would be one for the books.

Yes I do believe Texas still would outmatch LSU. If anything out of pure spite just to show LSU who has the real money. Thats how Texas is. Arrogant.
That’s not spiteful nor is it arrogance.
And I’m not saying that UT isn’t arrogant, I’m just not saying that that isn’t arrogance

You hit the nail on the head. Too many on the Rant don’t think about the economics of athletics. LSU athletics is a top 7 revenue generator at over $200m. But the Texas and TA&M and OSU were up near $275m. And LSU put all $200m back into the athletics budget - increasing recruiting to nearly $5m. As much as people hate BK, this is ultimately how he gets measured by his bosses and he absolutely help us recover after the Ed O crash. Women’s BB also grew significantly since KM arrived, but Football accounts for ~$105m of the total revenue last year. By the measure, BK is worth his comp because he’s more than grown the revenue to offset his comp increase over Ed O. The business of athletics.
