Our staff definitely told sage that they were going after a stud safety or 2 in the portal and sage left. We basically cut our losses with him. Theres no other way to interpret how that transpired with the timing and the way we are killing the portal. Ryan saw the writing on the wall and knew he would be a backup next season. Oh well, tbats the way cfb is now...its more of a business than ever and the players are treated as employees. If an employee unxerperforms as much as ryan did after multiple.opportunities then its time to replace him. At least the staff gave him ample time to enter the portal and find another team to join. Thank You ole miss, bc we ade.going to exploit his sorry arse all game long. Geaux Tigers

They told sage here’s how much we are paying based on your play. Obviously he thinks he’s worth more.

If sage came back it’s very likely he would have started. You live in a fantasy land.

I sure hope we take two that can be true difference makers. Need a deep backfield simply to overcome injuries.

The real question is - would we take two players at the Safety position?
_________

Not a question in my mind. We need two. Hope this is one of them.

Hoping they get another S to go alongside him if we can get this guy. They need someone with coverage skills. Cooley was pretty average in coverage. He was mostly a S who headhunts in the run game he's like an extra LB and a very good one there. LSU definitely needs help in this area but hopefully they look to a better coverage S somewhere in the portal. He's not bad in coverage but I think his PFF grade is off there. Either way, he's a huge upgrade if we can snag him.

At least that's my understanding of him. He's very versatile though and he definitely can keep growing considering he was a RS freshman. His PFF grade is very high in run defense. He was NC State's best defender and only came in due to injury.

According to PFF, Cooley registered a standout 80.8 defensive grade and an 81.8 coverage grade this season. That coverage mark ranked 21st among 546 cornerbacks who played in a Power Five conference this season. Major Burns’ grade was a 57 for comparison

Yeah, maybe I'm wrong in that but I thought he was an average or above-average cover guy.

Obviously he has had the chance to compare our program trophy collection and individual awards/honors/accolades to Ole Miss' lame arse empty "trophy room". Its not even fricking close. Show him the amount of all americans that have played here and the massive number of previous players that have gone on to the nfl as well. Show him why LSU is the place that can get him to where he wants to be like all the other ballers before him. Emphasize that LSU has been there and done that...winning nattys with our previous 3 head coaches in a row and that kelly is hell-bent on being the 4th. Show him the talent he will have surrounding him and the support that our football program has. Im sure hes comparing the facilities too...which arent even close either. The first step he takes into Tiger Stadium will be the icing on the cake. Either he gets to compete in one of, if not the best, sporting venues in sports...in front of the loudest and most passionate fanbases in the country...or play in bumfrick oxford ms at that high school stadium that they cant even fill when they are actually any good for a change.
We are a much better and reknowned program than Ole fricking Miss. Thats a fact. So, throw a bag at him and lets get this deal done!

And if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle. Sage was encouraged to take a hike and was told we were going to bring in some talent via the portal at his position bc it was a GLARING NEED and that we were going to spend money on new talent at his position rather than giving him more money...which he obviously didnt deserve. Sometimes the truth hurts but it ALWAYS needs to be said and acted upon. That right there shows how badly we need to upgrade the safeties on our team. Ryan sucked balls and everyone knows he was an average at best safety in the sec and performed well below how a safety at LSU is expected to perform. Sage ryan started bc we had nobody else to play the position. He was actually given more chances and a longer leash in his time as a tiger due to him being a "5* louisiana player" that we hoped would develop as time went on...that clearly hasnt happened. You then have to come to the realization that he is what he is and wont improve...what you have seen up to this point is what ur gonna get from him, which isnt near good enough to meet the standard and expectations we have at LSU.

You are the one living in fantasy land if you believe that sage ryan was a good safety for LSU and that we should have just stuck with him despite the overwhelming evidence that we needed to let him go to persue more talented players at his position who can help us win and achieve our goals as a team next season and in the future as a program. He was the worst safety LSU has had in idk how long. Its been a frickin while. Try naming a worse safety than sage ryan that started for us and see how far back u have to go. That is all.

I think Sage gets shite on a little more than he deserves. That said, I don’t disagree that LSU needs much better play at safety than he’s provided. But…

Come on. Gilbert was worse than Sage this season. It wasn’t particularly close. Maybe you can blame Gilbert’s injury, and I admit he looked better in the bowl game than he has all season. Since Burns is technically a safety, I’ll say he, too, was worse than Sage this season by a pretty wide margin. So, I found two safeties worse than Sage and didn’t even have to dip into history to do so, That really does underscore the current, sad state of the position.
