For anybody that wants to track Nate Sheppard this Friday, go follow Pete Vicknair (no I’m not him either!) on X, and turn his notifications ON. Every 5-10 minutes during the game you will get a notification saying Nate Sheppard scored a TD. It really is insane.
I have a feeling I can just check this thread instead lol

All 7v7 showed was Berry should be a WR
If Berry is lined up in the backfield, he will be a nightmare for opposing defenses. IMO, he is more like Reggie Bush but with ELITE speed.

Reggie bush had elite speed
A RB who can catch was a novel concept 20 years ago.
In 2024? Eh, cool.
There more value playing WR 65 snaps a game if that is truly his wheelhouse.
Or being a WR who can lineup in the backfield like Percy Harvin did

Point is there is NOT many Harlem Berry's coming out of high school. I would not just pigeon hole him. He's a unique talent, therefore should be used accordingly, not just as a wr. While Bush had damn good speed, I don't think he was on the same level as Berry speed.

There are, but they play WR or CB

Let me clarify then, NOT at his position.

I can name one… John Emery Jr.
Put high school John Emery on St Martins and his tape would look eerily similar, except JE was slightly bigger. Same 4.37 speed.

Pull up Emery's best 100m verified time and compare it to Berry's. I don't know why ya'll want to debate about Berry. Just accept the fact that LSU haven't offered the other kid and wish him well. As for me, I'm riding with Berry.

So now the 40 don’t matter? We can’t compare 40’s? Now it’s the 100m….ok.
I’ll do one better…
Emery Jr. played in one of the toughest (if not THE toughest) districts in LA. He looked the part against some of the best this state has to offer. He earned it in my opinion, but he didn’t live up to expectations (minus a few flashes here and there).

I’m all for Berry too. I’d be pissed if he for some reason decided to go somewhere else. I think he’s going to be special if used right.
My worry is that we’re going to miss on Sheppard, just like we did with the Dutchtown kid tearing it up at Tennessee.
At least offer the kid. Don’t they have a bunch more scholarships? He’s a 4.0 student. I just don’t get it.
As Milam would say…Ball Don’t Lie!

You can compare 40 or 100 times, Berry still will be the winner. I remember this guy named Derek Stingley playing in a lower classification, that turned out pretty good. For comparison sakes, back in the day, Gary James was a highly recruited RB and signed with LSU, also, there was the local kid that played at a lower level that turned out pretty good also, his name is Dalton Hillard. Again, just be happy the other kid will get a nice education. LSU is getting the back they want BERRY.

I don’t think you realize the types of teams Berry is playing against. This 1A football is not like the rest of the state.
Riverside and West St John are the only teams historically worth a damn who he will be playing this year.
There is 1A football that is really good in this state! But they’re typically good bc it’s the only school in town, and the kids that live there typically have to go there. Whether they are the best player in the state, or the worst they are going to be on the same team bc it’s the only option. Some schools put together really good programs. For example, Port Sulphur in the early 2000’s and West St John. Recently, Oak Grove comes to mind. All these schools are (or were) the only school in town.
In Berry’s area kids that are worth a damn go to Curtis, Rummel, Jesuit, Brother Martin, St Aug, Karr, Newman, etc, etc…the list goes on. These kids have options unlike the kids in these small towns. Berry’s district is full of kids that are just not very talented at all because if they were they would undoubtedly be attending school with a more prominent program in the area (and there are a bunch of them as listed above). All of the talent goes to these schools instead of the 1A schools in the area. The competition he is playing against is the lowest of the low in this state because all the talent has been sucked up by those bigger, more prominent programs. The thought of him transitioning from that level of 11v11 football to the level he will experience in the SEC is mind blowing.

Maybe just MAYBE, Berry wants to make his OWN PATH instead of doing the norm of going to a powerhouse program. Nothing more rewarding than getting your teammates looked at while also being the star. That's what REAL players do. They don't away from what they were apart of building. Anyway, i'm done with this discussion. Berry is the NUMBER ONE Rated RB in the country and that's a fact.

Thanks for playing! Just stating facts about his competition. Honestly it’s my only concern with Berry, but I’m confident he will adjust just fine.

Sheppard is gonna be a beast for someone at some position. Maybe not a rb at LSU but def has D-1 talent, top 5 player in Louisiana,IMO.

Give me an honest answer here; you watch Shepard’s tape and think his 100m is relevant ?
Brother, I promise you that every college coach, evaluator, personnel guy, etc. thinks verified measures of athleticism matter. 100m dash is a verified measure of athleticism.
Literally every single staff in America has size/speed thresholds that guys have to hit before they’ll offer them.

For a non-dedicated track guy who they very likely already have camp times on, it’s pretty irrelevant.
Good personnel guys will use verified information to confirm tape, and if does not check out, is thrown out.
If his football speed reflected that he certainly would not be as successful as he has been as a high school player as. It id pretty easy to debunk he is faster than that. Just watch the tape and trust your eyes

So how much does film matter compared to these measures of athleticism? Does performance on the field weigh less than these measures?
I’m truly intrigued by this. Not saying these measures don’t mean anything because they absolutely do, but I’m genuinely curious.
I like to watch film of these kids to get an understanding of how they react in certain situations. Especially the RBs and LBs.
