We have no idea what's actually being communicated from the staff to recruits, either.

Hell, we better stop processing anyone. This thing is not looking good right now.

Agreed. Bad look.

Saban, Kirby, Fisher, etc...all do the same. It's just a necessary evil in recruiting. Kids get cut from classes in many places.

Everyone has to cover their own butts. Sucks for Naquan though. He seemed excited to join LSU. You just hope his reaction didn't turn off other recruits.

Why do we process kids before getting commitments from the guys that are supposedly replacing them?

I get why we would move on from him since he is a 200 pound pass rusher that we were going to try to make play LBer but at worst he is a baller on special teams so why process him if we don't have the next guy on board yet?

I agree for the LSU side. Would really suck for Naquan if he was told on signing day, that he didn't have a spot. He now has time to re-evaluate.

Sometimes it not just about already having the next guy on board, it's a number of things:

1. Want to give current commit enough time to look around to find a different landing spot, dont want to do this and give him a week to sign somewhere in February...so while it's an uncourteous act to cut someone, might as well do it as soon as you just arent feeling them as much any more even if someone else isn't definitely on board

2. It's not always just about having another guy on board but sometimes you just dont feel they may be a contributor ultimately. They took Naquan this summer, despite himg having bad testing results from January this year (6'1 197, 5.2 40 and 26.5" vertical), with the hope of seeing how he performs his senior year. He has not played this senior season, so, probably very hard to project where he will be only seeing him as a pass rusher on Dline but he's the size of a small linebacker still right now with no senior film whatsoever...at this point they probably se him as too big a project and ultimately want someone more ready to play probably than he will be

He was told to look elsewhere and to decommit to "focus on his grades."

This makes sense.

This is a nice gesture but its BS if this really why we cut bait so early with guys. I don't see the Surtains, Burtons, Jarretts, and whoever else strings us along giving us the same courtesy so why should the program potentially hamper themselves cuz its the nice thing to do?

Are you trying to say you should never carry over a spot?

That is just so wrong.
What happens when a great qb comes available or a great pass rusher

Never wouldve gotten joe burrow.
They have been signing guys that will never contribute with the final spot the last year or two

No. I was saying we should try to carry over some spots to the next signing class rather than always fill all 25 every year. He was saying not to carry spots to the next class and to use all of the extra spots on transfers/grad transfers each year.

If 2018 signing day had gone the way the staff wanted it to, we'd have ended up with James Foster and Pat Surtain instead of Burrow and Tracey.
