So dabo is fantastic because he made the playoff this year (thanks to being able to outlast south Carolina and Syracuse) playing in the ACC where he has significantly more talent than everyone but fl st? After all these years he finally didn't choke away a couple games (thanks Spurrier) in a year fl st wasn't their best...and suddenly he is the new saban. Gotcha. Not even saying he is a bad coach....but man some of you overreact.
Dabo is fantastic because Clemson, yes, Clemson, is undefeated. The last time Clemson went undefeated, it was 1981. The last time they only lost 1 game was 1983. The last time they won double digit games prior to 2011 was 1990.
He took Clemson from a program that had been average for 2 decades, to a program that has won double digit games 5 years in a row. They have loaded up on talent because of him, not in spite of him. They have sent top round draft picks to the NFL because of him, not in spite of him. They are going undefeated because of him, not in spite of him. Look, he lost Tajh Boyd who broke tons of ACC records and 2 years later he has a heisman contender in Watson that he plucked from Georgia. Last year he lost one of the best OCs in the country in Chad Morris. Didn't miss a beat and actually they improved significantly.
Deshaun Watson has 4400 total yards and 41 total TDs as a true sophomore. They have a 1300+ yard 10 TD rusher who is a sophomore.
Clemson has the #16 scoring offense and #18 scoring defense along with the #12 total offense and #7 total defense.
They have one of the best DCs in the country who is also one of the best recruiters in the country which is why LSU and Les Miles tried to break the bank to get him last year (which is why he got a raise).
Nobody had called him the next Nick Saban, but he is from Alabama, Alabama is his alma mater, he was a GA there and WR/TE coach there, and I doubt they fall much at all when he heads to Bama after Saban retires. He's young for a HC sitting at 46, so if Saban is gone after 2019, you have a 50 year HC that is building Clemson into a powerhouse. He's knocked off traditional powers like LSU, Ohio State, and Oklahoma in bowl games in the past 3 years and his team is only getting better.
If the depth chart I saw dated Dec 4th is correct, he only has 3 senior starters on offense and 2 senior starters on defense. Now they will lose some juniors but when you talk about bringing back you starting QB and RB, 3/5th OL, every WR but your #3 (plus you get your last year's #1 WR back from season ending injury in from game 1), likely your starting TE as well, you aren't going to skip a beat on offense. They likely bring back 6 on defense too. I could see them repeating over FSU.
TL; DR, Dabo is a very good coach and he's young and only getting better.

don't think Miles recruits crappy QB's by choice, it has just turned out that way 9probably because of our offense). Look at this year for example, we have pursued Franks, Haskins, and Patterson. But are most likely going to wind up with a couple no names lower tiered players. It's not by choice.
Actually evaluation, development, and actually keeping good depth all factor in immensely to our QB woes. We get these project types and have to throw them to the fire because we can barely keep backups here.
Haskins is my favorite QB from this 2016 lot. Reminds me so much of Teddy B when he was at Louisville. He can make all the throws, has a quick release, great pocket presence, mobile and has extremely good accuracy. He'd allow us to throw the ball at every level and utilize much more of the playbook.
Watch the tape of QBs LSU has committed over the last several years and then compare it to Haskins. He is far and away more polished than any of them.

Disagree.
Don't care what coach they get. There will be quite a drop off.
That's great what he is doing at Clemson and good for him.. but I don't see this many elite kids out of state going to Alabama without Saban.

I thought so for a long while but the talent Saban leaves will be enough for a 3 year run while whoever comes in sets up base. Plus South Carolina also has two top programs in that state with less talent than the state of Alabama has yet Dabo does well plucking from in state and the surrounding areas. He gets 4 star guys from North Carolina, Georgia and Florida and those ties will all help him in his move to Alabama.

In Saban's first full class (08) #3 ranked in the country, 9 of his top 12 ranked recruits came from Alabama with 2 of the other 3 coming from surrounding states. The top 6 were all Alabama players. I'm talking Julio Jones, Mark Barron, Courtney Upshaw, and Marcel Dareus in his top 12. In 2009 the top 8 Alabama players went to Bama, with the top four consisting of Nico Johnson, Fluker, McCarron, and Kirkpatrick.
Now the likelihood of them busting out that much top talent yearly is a pipe dream for Bama fans, and they pretty much are all 3 stars after the first 10 Alabama recruits, but I'm pretty sure a well respected coach like Dabo Swinney by the time Saban retires, will be able to pick and choose talent from Alabama plus use his recruiting ties in Georgia and Florida.
Saban wasn't pulling in guys from all corners of the country his first couple of years, he had to establish it, but they were still winning 10, 11, 14 games a year after his 1st season.

I'd rather read you bash Miles than this Dabo| Saban circle jerk

well that's one of the reasons he is one of the top rated QB's in the country. Very doubtfull he comes to LSU. Trying to entice a top level QB to come to play in our offense is no easy task.

How many of the 24 5* were 4* before they committed to Alabama?

Well I tell it like it is. I don't go on here saying Miles sucks, but I do talk about his problems. I also don't come on here bad mouthing other coaches just for the sake of bad mouthing other coaches. They'd have to have some problems like Saban had the last couple of years with 5 star DBs and poor pass defense (secret, the front 7 makes his secondary look MUCH better than they actually are).

Meant no harm with my post, DBB, just got indigestion reading pages of Dabo and Saban.
Nothing was wrong with what you said about either. Both are great coaches.

this years AP All American team was made up of mostly 4 star players. 3 of the other players were 0 stars, no ranking out of high school.
From 2002-2010 44.3% of 5 stars were drafted into the nfl. That's fricking insane. Every year FBS programs sign about 2500 total recruits. To be able to pick 30 5 * players out of 2500 each year and get 44 % of them right over an 8 year period is phenomenal.

The people that say that don't really know or follow recruiting.
As you can see the talent gap between bama and lsu is bigger than the gap between lsu and Ole miss.

Except if you're LSU... we literally had the same thing, except we DIDN'T lose our #3 WR.
