Samford. We traded him for McManus straight up.

I thought he was going to be the next stud safety after 2019.

Yeah. Samford went heavy in the transfer portal after losing a bunch of guys to the SEC West.

Not too many positions in sports require you to have as much God given athleticism/speed as an SEC/NFL DB. To have that talent and choose baseball at a small school requires a crazy amount of conviction. Respect

Right? I know a lot of people say “frick ‘em” after a kid transfers but I do feel for Hampton. I think it’s really hard to be a 2 sport guy at a top-tier program (in both sports too) nowadays.

The kid loved both games and between the football time commitment and whatever the frick was going on between him and Mainieri, he might have really fricked himself long term. I hope not.

If so, that's awesome. Would have loved for him to still be here, but wish him the best and hope that he does well.

I don’t think anything was really going on between him and Mainieri. Hampton was a very raw but very talented baseball player when he got here. Then he spent the majority of his time keeping up with his football commitments. He just flat out didn’t have the time to improve to the level he needed to to beat out the guys in front of him in baseball.

I don’t blame Mo and I don’t blame either the baseball or football coaching staff. Playing two sports in the SEC is extraordinarily difficult and the people who can pull it off as freshmen are few and far between.

I give the kid props for even trying it.

Dude is a pretty good football player, I guess he really wanted to focus on baseball or else he would have stayed. I know he has the power and the speed, I hope he can put it all together and do well for himself.

Good for him to recognize what his passion is. You can’t put a price on happiness.
