My DeSmet grad cousin (he's a Mizzou fan) just texted me this. We're the likely destination apparently.

No. If he comes to LSU it will be because of Steeples.

Steeples will get him for us.

Probably already has. Good player, 3-tech in 4 man front. All SEC Freshman team last year.

Wingo, a St. Louis native and a regular along the D-line this season, will be the eighth player from Mizzou to enter the portal since the end of the regular season but the first from Eli Drinkwitz's 2021 recruiting class. PowerMizzou.com first reported the news Thursday.

The former four-star recruit and 2020 All-Metro defensive player of the year from De Smet High appeared in 12 of 13 games this season, making four starts. He played 460 snaps, the most among MU's defensive tackles, and had the defense's fourth-best Pro Football Focus defensive grade at 73.1, best among MU's tackles. He finished the year with 27 tackles and one sack and also returned an interception for a touchdown.

The only hope that Drink has to make Mizzou relevant is to lock down St Louis.

As long as Steeples is here, that's not going to happen.

Correct, it was a very smart hire by Kelly to snag a very well respected/known coach out of STL.

There is talent here. And enough talent to make Mizzou relevant if they locked it down (especially skill players). Drink made it clear early that he was going to play the game in St Louis (similar to what LSU had to do in New Orleans). Luther Burden is his first big win against the big boys, but Mizzou already seems to be getting defensive about keeping him on the roster (the push to buy the apparel).

I hope they can snag that TE from De Smet too.

My cousin seems to think Iowa could be a player there. His dad played for Ferentz I think. But we should have a pretty good shot.

Markway, his dad is Iowa, his cousin played at South Carolina i believe. Thers a lot of moving parts for him. I dont think mizzou is after him just cause we already have a TE for 23'. With steeples at LSU now though, I could see LSU being a player in his recruitment.

Yea, its possible to be the 2nd/3rd best team consistently in the East if they can lock the state down. But it will be hard, especially with Steeples having the connections he has at De smet. and the burden thing, im guessing some back door deals were made to secure him so im sure they will push his stuff super hard.

Steeples only had markway his frosh year, so not sur ehow strong that is. Also theres nothing between mizzou and him either anymore.

73.1 PFF grade as a freshman, thats really good

For reference Jack Bech got a 74.7 PFF grade his freshman year for us as a similar grade comparison

Are teams better off going after freshman transfers than high school recruits due to the one time free transfer rule? It seems like they will actually have to commit after their first transfer.

LSU is in such a shite show of a roster situation that they need willing and able bodies to field a competitive team next year.

And they've been in a college strength & conditioning program for a year.

Kelly needs to recruit current players back to the team, if he can bring back the main pieces of the puzzle, LSU should be very competitive this year.
