as far as recent players from LSU, who would he compare to? Based on size I would think Marlon Favorite, but would that be an accurate comparison as far as play style as well?

Well, here is what I said the other day:

LINK

quote:

You know, I don't doubt the veracity of what you are saying because I heard your interview with him last week. You are spot on in reporting what the kid said.

However, I am suspecting, without any proof of course, that M. Johnson would jump on an LSU offer if presented to him.

Why do I say that? He has been to at least two LSU camps, is planning on attending another this summer, and now Jr. Day...with another Jr. Day coming up at the Spring Game in March. And, still no offer.

So why is Johnson spending all this time at LSU if he doesn’t want to commit? Well, he just might want an offer and then continue to look. And, he gets to be taught by college coaches, improve is technique, and practice against some of the best in the region at the camps. That is all true. But, his only offers are MS State, Tulane, and Tulsa…Which is not that impressive for a DT of his size, weight, and strength as a Jr. in H.S.

But, I can't help but speculate that the kid will commit on the spot if offered and the coaches know it. Thus, Miles and Co. want to test the out of state DT prospect waters for a few months and see if they can land a whale (including Q. Thomas) before offering M. Johnson and Hunter.

I know it’s a shot in dark, speculation, a gut feeling, and mere guess, but that is what I am thinking.

I'll eat crow and admit that my hunch of him committing on the spot was wrong. But, I also predict that the offers are going to pour in for him. I sure hope he eventually commits to LSU.

This is my thought, as well. It makes me wonder how the Bates situation went down, and how Bates is handling it.

He and Bates are different style players... hard to make an accurate comparision.

SPS will be counting on Mickey to lead the D-line this Fall. I'm looking forward to seeing him play, and seeing if he gets even bigger over the next six months. It'll also be interesting to see if his production suffers w/o as much support at DE as he's had the last couple of years.

Johnson is definitely the strongest in the state on the bench with that 440 pause press. He benches about 100lbs. more than Hunter according to their profiles, but Hunter squats much more so it would come down to the deadlift to decide the winner for the strongest.
