Aside from Thomas, none of the other portal guys so far really move the needle for me. Once again it seems like McMahon is just trying to cobble together the best players he can (on paper) but I fail to see the philosophy or the vision he has for the program.
Unfortunately the pieces we’ve lost from last year were our better pieces. The recent news of Collins leaving is disheartening too. I’m still skeptical that these guys from these mid majors can consistently come in and change SEC games. Time will tell. For McMahon’s sake they need to work out.

Those guys from midmajors have literally done just that throughout the SEC and college basketball this year take a peak at tournament team rosters.

I think they fit perfectly so far. Mackinnon can shoot and will be asked to spot up more. Nwoko is going to really help defensively down low and on the boards. King is a bit all around guy
Curious at the timing of the decision…wondering if we got a guy like Sutton

LSU forward Daimion Collins, a former 5?? recruit, is entering the transfer portal, he told @On3sports
This stinks. I think Collins has a place on this team as a role player, as well as V Miller. I wish we could lure them into returning. I think Collins will see less time with Nwoko and with Reed returning, and R. Miller's development is a wildcard, but we could still use Collins' athleticism and length. I guess he anticipates that he can start somewhere else. I think Collins will play in the NBA, and its never good to lose that type of player. Also, we still need another shooter, and V. Miller is a good and athletic shooter that we will miss too. It's hard to keep replacing talent. I was hoping we would add talent to some of the core players which I thought would be Reed, Collins, R Miller, V Miller and to a lesser extent, Givens. I don't think we should expect much from the freshmen, but they may surprise us.

Agreed a starting lineup of
Thomas
McKinnon
King
Reed
Miller
That’s not a top tier sec team and quite frankly not even top half of the league team.

I think we're still out looking for 2 more starters personally (3 total players, for now).

Correct but McMahon hasn’t shown any ability to develop such players. He is 1/9 in recruiting smaller school players
The one good player: KJ Williams
The other 9 bad:
Jordan Sears
Cam Hayes
Trae Hannibal
Juice Williams
Kendal Coleman
Carlos Stewart
Dji Bailey
Noah Boyed
Hunter Dean

Perhaps. But you can't really count this year. McMahon is having to replace his entire roster.

Why are people so quick to discount our transfers because “they don’t know them”…we are top 5 in the portal. Just because you don’t know Rashad King doesn’t mean he sucks. He can easily average 10ppg next year. Most teams only have 3 maybe 4 double digit scorers.

I don't think that's fair. I think Bailey, Dean, Hayes, and Hannibal were good players, just not stars. Sears was average, but I agree the rest were bad. He needs a couple of stars through the portal.

Hannibal and Dean played WAY ABOVE what they should have. Boyde shouldn’t be in the convo. Coleman was never supposed to be good. Williams and Sears were the only busts, but unfortunately we put a lot of hope on them

You think Bailey dean and Hannibal were good? Lmfao wow the standards are low. That’s 3 scout team players for Wade John Brady and dale brown. Sears averaged 22 a game coming in and averaged 12 here on 37% FG and 31% 3s

Because there is 98 games of information, producing a 45-53 (14-40) record, that has deteriorated the benefit of the doubt. LSU is down to #3 now in the portal. That number is likely to decrease as the days go on because players will continue to enter and the majority of the (current) top 100 players have yet to commit to new schools. But even if LSU does finish with a top 20, or even top 10 class, it's not something we haven't seen before. In 2023 LSU had the #17 transfer class. In 2022 they had the #11 class. The results: 31-35 (11-27).
If you want people to stop doubting you...give them a reason to stop doubting you. While it is great McMahon is out trying to sign new talent, no rational person will believe it will lead to anything UNTIL they see it happen on the court.

Ok so you are doubting the coach. That’s fine. But this is about discussing the transfer portal. It is not about the coach. I asked why people dislike our transfers. I watched about 45 mins worth of youtube last night and I really like these pieces. I ask why we don’t like them…
Because we think the coach sucks. Ok, but that is a completely different argument
ETA: 2022 we replaced 12 players. We were only that high because of the sheer volume of players we got. In 2023, the following year we showed improvement and went to the NIT. I get being upset at the coach, but I thought this was the ONE THREAD on this entire site that we could have a little positivity. I guess if you have any hope or belief you are just a fool and we should think everyone will suck

Exactly what I was about to respond with. I don't understand some of the posters in this thread purpose for being here. They don't want to talk transfer portal they just want to say McMahon sucks and we will suck as long as he is here. We could get Auburns exact team and they would think we would suck. I get it and there is a reason it's put up or shut up this season for the coach but this isn't the place to whine about that. Pick any of the countless threads on the rant for that. Honestly some people are so emotionally and intellectually immature when they are upset about something they have to make sure you aren't enjoying yourself either.

V Miller hardly defended. And Chest got BULLLLLLIED down low
the advanced metrics show that the best overall player at anything was chest on defense, and also that v Miller was a good defender
Yes. They were the best two returning players and the best returning defenders. Their athleticism and defense have not been replaced in the portal as of now. In fact, the current roster projects to be significantly worse on defense next season.

Because you could go back to April 2022, April 2023, April 2024, and find almost the EXACT same threads. People watched highlights of players (where everyone looks great) and "really liked" the pieces. Then the season happened and "suddenly" those same players everyone really liked in April had "no talent".
Posted on 4/4/25 at 1:54 pm to Alt26
Unless these are the exact same players that is an irrelevant point. Just admit some of yall are here to derail the thread in protest against the coach
