So apparently we play some pussy ball in louisiana....cause the last few years our kids haven't gotten much pub.

No John Diarse?
List is not legit

Was thinking that too. Didn't another smaller recruiting guru rank him top #6?
Posted on 4/10/12 at 11:38 am to OlyTiger
Rivals has him as the #3 athlete in the nation and # 66 overall.
24/7 has him @ the #15 WR and #151 overall

list is terrible. santa maria #100. too much weight to current commits from big schools.

So the 24/7 list is not legit either?

I just don't understand what more Diarse needs to do to get national respect. His resume is as good as it gets.
I mean fricking Trovon Reed was a top 100 guy. Trovon Reed couldn't carry JD's jockstrap.

MaxPreps has been good to us on the high school level (they had Fournette and Quinn on their All-American teams the past two years), not sure why we don't have more on the top 100 list. Hard to imagine that many more states besides Texas, California, and Florida having as many quality athletes as we have!

LSU will field the most talented team in the Nation 2012...
Recruiting Rankings be damned
Recruiting Rankings be damned

quote:For one, Reed's offer list was significantly more extensive. Diarse has offers from three top programs, all within the region. Reed had them from dozens all over the country. With his buddy Sean Nelson dragging him all around, he went to a whole bunch of camps and combines and whatnot that Diarse might not have been to.

Also keep in mind Diarse is a top 100-150 guy right now. If MaxPreps had put out a top 250 list and Diarse was #125, would that make it more palatable? It's not like there is a cutoff at #100 and everyone after that is a scrub. Out of the tens of thousands of high school football players in America, the difference between #50 and #150 is a virtual coin flip.
Plus it's only April of his junior year. There will be about a dozen adjustments of the rankings before NSD. He has plenty of camps, combines, all-star games, not to mention a whole senior season, to prove his worth. Reed started out top-20 in the first Rivals100 ranking and slowly fell throughout the evaluation process. Diarse may have the opposite result.

Lemming is a joke. I look at his rankings just for another view. He's living purely off his status as one of the pioneers in the industry. Very questionable rankings for some kids. Jaylon Smith in the 30s? Has he been under a rock? Now he's setting himself up to look like more of a ND homer than he already is known as. If Smith goes to ND as is somewhat expected and moves up considerably towards his more realistic ranking, the novices that look at his rankings will see it as a bump for a ND commit.
People are going to have to begin to understand a couple of things in regards to Diarse. 1, high school accolades are mostly meaningless in recruiting rankings. There are too many all state, player of the year and multiple state champions by average kids from a recruiting perspective.
2, he is not a "wow" prospect. There are going to be those that are extremely high on him and those that are only lukewarm. His best skills are not measurable and he has no elite skill aside from his leadership ability. Many think he's a maxed out kid with very limited upside. You have to remember that recruiting rankings are done with the NFL as the future. How many of you are willing to say right now that Diarse is a sure NFL prospect? I'm not and there are many that agree. I like the fact that he's in our class and am very happy to have him but I wouldn't bet on him being a sure star at LSU. I promise you we have 65-70 kids on scholarship currently that are equal or better natural talents than Diarse. That doesn't mean he isn't one of those kids that's just special but recruiting rankings are primarily based on talent and potential.
Count me in as one of the guys that, based purely on natural talent and potential, that thinks Reed is a step above Diarse as a prospect. For all the bad things that can be said about Reed, him having a lack of talent is not one of them. Is he soft and was he overrated? I think so but that doesn't take away from the natural gifts he has. Also agree with the poster that said to look at the offer lists. I know they aren't the end all, be all but both of the kids are well known by pundits and fans alike. You can bet that college coaches were well aware of both as well. Diarse is a regional prospect. Reed was a semi national recruit.
Just my opinion and I expect some to disagree.

I tend to agree. Diarse reminds me of Sam Gibson.

Once a kid commits to a school, especially his in state school,as a junior the scholarship offers usually slow down. Then, if the kid is still a solid commit and not visiting any other schools or talking to other schools, they stop or the recruiting sites stop reporting it. Trovon Reed never committed to LSU, and he said he had no problem leaving LA. Which is why, IMO, he had as impressive of a list as he did. I guarantee you that if Diarse wouldnt of committed to LSU as early and would of played the "recruiting game" he would have as good of a list as Reed.

I don't think so but neither of us know for sure which scenario would play out. The recruiting cycles have advanced to a much quicker pace even in just the 3 years since Reed was recruited. Schools don't waste time slowplaying kids these days particularly kids from OOS that initially make it clear that the instate school isn't a lock to get him. That was Diarse just 2 months ago. His biggest offers are from LSU, Bama(who wouldn't take him right now) and TCU. That's the epitomy of a regional recruit. By this point in his recruitment Reed had multiple national offers. Even Texas was on the verge of offering him and at that point they hardly ever looked OOS for kids. If coaches were sure about Diarse his offer list would show it. Would he have garnered more? I'm sure but not at Reed's level. Reed was a kid that went to the Army game and practiced very well at CB even though he went as a wr and expected to be at wr the full time there. That speaks to his gifts athletically. Personally I think Diarse will be a better player than Reed(already is) so I'm not trying to knock the kid or say I think he's a questionable take or marginal but his talent has to be taken into context. The headlines far outweigh the talent imo. Again his best attributes are not seen by most of us so it's hard to really grasp. The reasons some love him and some are not so much in love with him.
