tough when you only have about 2 months to actually recruit him. Crazy the amount of legacies LSU has missed on bc of timing
So even the great Will Wade can't get Louisiana recruits with lots of energy and a shite pile of money to spend? Noted. I guess we will try to find the next euro league star and cross our fingers he's eligible.

Easy to understand. If he grew up in Louisiana and went to Catholic or Uhigh then LSU.
Good luck. Your daddy sure made LSU proud.

If we didn’t waste time with the McCharity, we probably would’ve been in a better position.
Don’t forget. McMahon missed on a major recruit with Louisiana ties (Cenac) and McMahon had a couple years to seal that deal. Like everything under his leadership with this program, that recruitment was a failure.

No one brought up McMahon, but one of the reasons we brought back Will Wade was to win recruiting battles, especially in Louisiana.
This was a huge whiff. Y'all can make all of the excuses you want.

Spears, Jr. is from Texas. He has a sister who attends Texas. Sure, his father's family is from Louisiana. But that doesn't necessarily mean he considers himself to be a "Louisiana recruit".
That aside, it could very well be an issue of roster make up. He just decided to reclassify to play this season. LSU's projected signing class is pretty heavy in the frontcourt with pros (Santos, Niang, Dessert, Ruzik), along with Dioubate. Texas, not as much. They brought in two forwards through the portal. The other forwards are FR or RSFR. The path to significant minutes for a young true freshman seems clearer at UT than it does at LSU for this season.

Again, Jr. grew up in Texas. He went to HS in Texas. Wade didn't "lose a recruiting battle in Louisiana for a Louisiana player"...because Spears isn't a Louisiana player. To my knowledge he's never lived in Louisiana. At least to any significant degree.
If you are going to make an argument at least get your facts straight.

My apologies, he's an LSU legacy, and many on here thought he was a lock when we got Wade back. Just because I said "Louisiana recruit", doesn't take away from the point. Many thought Cenac would've been a lock had Wade been here.
We have no idea what the roster make-up will be. We don't know who is even eligible yet, much less who would be staying or leaving after this season. Spears would get significant minutes wherever he goes, even reclassifying, he's a top 10 draft pick. That's a wild assumption to say that had anything to do with it. I guess we will see what happens with Jamison and Brewer.

The last four years were such a waste for this once proud program. This past season in particular was the biggest joke. Any coach worth their salt would’ve been able to reel in Chris Cenac too.
It's all about money. Legacies are irrelevant now.

That seems like a gross mischaracterization. I don't recall many saying he was a "lock". They were just saying Wade had a better chance of signing him that the prior staff simply given how little success that staff had.

Maybe he would have. But either way, that can only be speculation because Wade wasn't at LSU at that time.

"We" may not. But I suspect the coaches have a much better idea of what it will be. And that's really all that matters.

He's reclassifying to play for Texas THIS season. LSU's frontcourt class especially is largely comprised of older, international pros. Texas's isn't. It's Center who is returning. Two power conf. transfers, and the rest are freshmen/RS freshmen. Wade didn't go sign international pros to stash on the bench. So it is VERY much possible a kid looking to play immediately to a degree that might put him in position to leave after 1 year would consider Texas's roster may provide a better opportunity for him to do so.
Any time a Louisiana prospect leaves the state, in any sport, the fans go ape at the coach for "letting him leave". But here, we have a kid who is NOT from Louisiana. Yet, somehow, he was supposed to come to LSU simply because his parents attended LSU?

Marcus Spears should where Texas on tv from here on out because it takes away all the good he did at LSU
Posted on 7/10/26 at 3:22 pm to Alt26
If both of your parents went to LSU, it should be the expectation that your kids go to LSU. It’s been almost 20 years since the LSU volleyball team has been ranked. Texas was coming off back to back national championships when his sister signed. I could see that. You can’t convince me playing time had anything to do with Spears choosing Texas. Most of these kids we have committed aren’t even on the official roster, so how do we know they’re even under contract? Spears is a better prospect than anyone on our roster, hands down it wouldn’t be difficult to leave a few guys over in Europe if it came down to playing time or money.
It’s a big loss when BOTH of your parents played basketball at LSU and he doesn’t end up on campus.

That's quite a qualifier to put on someone else's life. "Even though you grew up in a different state, you are expected to go to the same school your parents attended."

Again, there is the word "we". "We" don't have to know. "We" may want to know, but "we" don't have to know. But I suspect the people actually involved, i.e. the players and coaches, have a bit more clarity on the situation than "we". "We" are just speculating.

Maybe he is. But he's also 17 years old (won't be 18 until next April). There is a lot of physical and mental difference between 17 year olds who have played, to date, against teenagers, and 22, 23, 24 year olds who have been competing against grown men. Many coaches have talked about preferring to bring in experienced more mature players. That's not to say LSU would have turned Spears away (they would not have). But it's not as much of emphasis to sign blue chip HS prospects as it once was when there was no way to bring in immediately eligible veteran transfers.
There could (and probably were) many reasons why he chose Texas. It's a good school in his home state that a member of his family already attends. But when I guess your predetermined conclusion is that he didn't attend LSU because he doesn't like Wade and/or Wade is a poor recruiter, then any suggestions otherwise fall on deaf ears.
It's going to be an interesting season. LSU is going to be better than the absolute dogshit the program has been for the last four years. Probably significantly better. Yet, we are still going to have a dedicated handful hoping LSU loses simply to, I guess, earn some sort of anonymous message board cred.

He's never even played professional basketball? Obviously not on our radar
