We will only have 2 true NT/DT in Jaquelin Roy and Jacobian Gulliory after this season. Maason Smith seems to be a DE regardless of 3-4 or 4-3 due to length. Next in line is Bryce Langston who played basically an oversized roving OLB position in HS and 1 game played this season. We gotta go get some transfer portal kids immediately.

Whether we are in a 3-4 or 4-3 next year, we need bigger bodies up front.

Maason is clearly an interior DL. His play dropped off considerably when he moved outside. Langston will likely grow into a DT as well.

Smith is a DE in a 3-4 all day. If we remain 4 man front, then he’s a DT

He's a strong side DE in the 3-4 so that basically makes him a DT playing a 3-tech or a 4i for majority of the game.

He can also play DE in a Tite front because both DEs in a Tite front play 4i's.

Depends on what front the DC chooses but generally

N in a 0 or a shade. Responsible for weak A. Unless you want him 2 gapping

Strong side DE in 3 tech or 4i responsible for strong B gap.

Weakside DE in 5 tech responsible for weak C.

Standup Backer or Jack responsible for Strongside C gap generally but that can change too.

Mike- strong A

Will- weak B

So it’s generally a 1 gap system with maybe a 2 gap NT?

Yep. The thing is gaps can be exchanged based on down blocks and pulls and who the keys are. The gaps are more of a presnap look if you have all your gaps covered. So we have enough guys in the box or that are playing run to cover all the gaps the offense can create. People talk about Aranda and the 3-4 but at his core he was really playing a 3-3-5 at LSU.

If we dont lose kids to the portal, DT/DE is one of the few position that we are very strong.
