LSU currently has two 4 star wr commits, Jaray Jenkins and Kenan Jones. In a normal year, that would not be a bad haul.

The number one 5 star wr recruit in the state and in the country is Terrace Marshall. By all accounts LSU leads for him.

JaMaar Chase is a five star with some services and not committed. LSU is still after him and very much in play even though rumors have him leaving the state.

Devonta Jason is a high 4 star and has been a 5 star with some services. He is committed to Kansas, but still looking at LSU. Its not like we have to pry him away from Alabama or USC.

Lawrence Keys is another Louisiana 4 star who is uncommitted and doesn't seem to have a big favorite we have to overcome.

Then you have 4 star Justin Watkins from Georgia who some say is a silent commit to LSU.

Obviously the big fish is Marshall and if he is all we get, that would give LSU the best wr recruiting class in the country, even without adding Watkins.

That said, if you added any one of these five to the two we have, it would still rate as one of the top wr recruiting classes in the country.

I would be very happy just to get Marshall, even though they want to add depth at wr, three sounds like the right number to me. Watkins would be some very nice lagniappe.

It would seem unlikely we would miss on all five, so it appears LSU will almost certainly have at least three top quality receivers in this class.

Its like duck hunting I think. If you have a flock of 40 teal come into your blind and you excitedly fire into the flock, you often miss them all. You still have to slow down and make sure you pick the birds you want.

I think they'll get Marshall and Watkins, and I'm still hoping and praying we get Jamarr Chase too. Like you said if that's the case, that's the best haul of WRs in the country.

Pulling 5 wideouts in a recruiting class is too much, it’s wasting scholarships that would be better used on positions of need such as OL, DL, QB or LB.

It's not a waste when you have the depth chart LSU currently has at WR

Marshall seems to be in the bag, but the big question remains can we get Chase to stay home? I think if he does, they may call it quits at WR, but if not, then Watkins/Keys III it is. Even though Watkings/Keys III are slot guys, and they may take 5 WRs...but Chase would be a huge land with Marshall. Instant upgrades to our WR talent.

Drake Davis 4* JR
Dee Anderson 4* JR
Stephen Sullivan 4* JR
Derrick Dillon 4* JR
Mannie Netherly 4* Soph
Jonathon Giles 3* (transfer with 1100 yds and 13 TDs his last season at TX Tech)
Racey McMath 3* Soph

Our depth is good, but a lot of players will be seniors next season.

We'll have 0 seniors next year, those are the classes you posted for next year next to their names

Geez, you're right. I projected their class forward already and forgot and did it again.

I don't really get this narrative.

WE have 17 (not counting chark, gage, or stevens - who is still listed at WR).

Sure some of them are guys I've never heard of, but that's a lot of WRs. Especially for our offense.
Oklahoma State, for example, will have only 14 (not including any early defections to the NFL) and they will use WRS a lot more than us.

So, while I don't agree that we need that many because of "depth" problems I have zero issues with them filling out the class with 2 or 3 more VERY talented WRs given the fact that there aren't exactly any elite OL or RBs banging at our door.

Don't slow down too much because Teal are fast as hell!

You forgot Justin Jefferson. So right now, we have 8 scholarship WRs for next year.

Would love to add Marshall and call it a day. We have other areas of need and 3 blue chip WR's seems like the right number. We need to balance our recruiting classes. Something Les had trouble with.

That's how we ended up lacking depth at DL, LB, QB, OL in
the past. If you can't sign elite OL, DL, LB, QB, etc., don't put all your eggs in one basket get the best available. What good are 20+ WR's if you don't have a complete balanced team (proper depth at all positions)? I guarantee that some of those non-elite athletes are going to be very good players.

I agree three is the right number. If you get too many at one position in the same class, it’s inevitable one or more of them get pushed too far down the depth chart and transfer out.

I would add another offensive lineman, we are getting four but two of those are juco so we are not getting enough young talent to develop.

I think a part of the problem is that there aren’t many good offensive linemen in the state now, while we have a surplus of good receivers.

I would not be surprised to see one of the defensive tackles in this class move across the line. It’s s very good defensive tackle class and they are still trying to add another one.

At least we know there are 8 dummies on the Rant and counting. How can you downvote V2_Jig's statement? This is huge reason we lost relevancy with Miles? How many 4 and 5 star receivers inflated the ratings by signing with us only to leave within a season or two? And then you bitch about getting dominated in the trenches.

Quality depth at every position is a very good problem to have.

Under Miles having even 10 scholarship WR's was a waste honestly.

If they are to be used in a 4 wide type system I think an argument can be made for carrying 12-13 on the roster.

I just don't see a good reason for LSU to carry anything more than 11-12 max.

If they sign 5 this year then they must expect some attrition.

Exactly, and that's what recruiting is all about, getting the right players, not necessarily the highest rated. A few years ago a college head coach made a statement, I think it was Urban Meyer when he left Fla. The coach said, "we started recruiting stars instead of football players." These recruiting, "experts" see a kid, 6 foot 3 220 pounds and runs a 4.3 4.4 forty who blazes by defenders and catches fifty yard passes routinely and they say he's a high 4 star or 5 star. A guy like that can be ultra successful in high school, but in college it's a different ballgame. I believe O and his staff are good at evaluating these players and I know the ones he gets will be worth it. I have questions on a couple players myself, but they the one who've been in the home's and have followed these recruits close up. So, I trust their decisions on who sign. I will say this, Lawrence Keys III is a frickin lightening bolt who would excel in Canada's sweeps.
