Looking at Riley and Napier’s classes, Kelly really did pretty well considering the situation. This is where we’re all currently at:

LSU:
18th overall class
13 signees
2 five stars

USC:
81st overall class
6 signees
1 five star

Florida:
50th overall class
9 signees
1 five star

So Kelly basically blew Riley and Napier out of the water in terms of class retention, class size, and matched or exceeded them in new signings. It’s pretty obvious that coming in on two weeks notice and getting kids to sign with you is a tall order in the current state of football and Kelly was able to do that better than two known “ace recruiters” at other elite programs with staffs that are more filled out than his is currently. Riley basically has a full staff with a way lower level of recruiting competition and still couldn’t get it done. Hopefully this eases some melting

We had a more kids and better kids committed prior to him taking over.
The old staff did a pretty good job with recruiting considering they were all on the way out.

Kelly or Ogregon? People blame Ed for everything, the only kid he didn’t offer that signed was Ibieta. That said I am glad Kelly kept these kids together.

They’re 10th overall with the same amount of signees as us, 0 five stars, and a few more 4 stars, but our lowest ranked player is a top 10 kicker who’s unranked overall and our class is probably better than theirs despite the ranking difference. And our fans are having a nuclear meltdown, so there’s that

Florida had a massive amount of decommits when Napier took over

It’s almost like Woodward and Kelly’s strategy of taking their time and not shitcanning the entire staff at once was a smart move, right? While people, again, are melting down on the CC board over the fact that we don’t have all new coaches yet

To what? Be making an apples to apples comparison of classes in their current state between programs who replaced their coaches at roughly the same time? No, I don’t think it is, you’re not smart buddy gtfo of my thread

Someone else did the same thing yesterday when Florida was at #77 & then they signed Kamari Wilson (their best) & ended the day in top 50. USC will sign their best, Domani Jackson on Friday, so they'll be alot higher at end of early signing period. On the other hand, LSU can still get their best player with Matthews/Law.

It's just my opinion that it's not a good comparison after 1 day of signings. Especially with the transfer portal. I'm interested to see where all 3 end up in February.

Going to start off by saying I like the Brian Kelly hire and I think he's going to do great here. What follows is absolutely not a knock on him.

But let's give some credit where it's really due. Ed Orgeron and his staff continued to work the recruiting trail right up until they were relieved of duties and continued to sell the message of committing to LSU, not to a particular coach. On top of that, Woodward was personally calling recruits after the announcement that Ed was being let go. This class stayed together as well as it did largely due to the efforts of Woodward, Orgeron, and the staff.

Now, Kelly and particularly Frank Wilson, have also done good work with quickly building up those lines of communication for recruits with the new staff as it's being assembled, as well.

Just wanted to say, this class is not a total disaster because of a huge effort by the AD and the outgoing staff.

I agree that Ed deserves some credit here.

ok. Did I say anywhere in my post that my point was to prove without a shadow of a doubt that Kelly is going to finish with a better class than USC and Florida in February? No, that wasn’t my point, it was to provide a snapshot at this point in time, and anyone who actually understands data and stats knows that it was objectively a “good comparison” even if you want to disagree because you’re triggered over the fact that you think I’m beating my chest about the final outcome of the class 3 months from now, which I’m not

It’s completely fine if you feel that way, and I completely agree that we will see how everything turns out in time, but I made this thread for everyone acting like Kelly is a massive failure to this point because we don’t have a top 5 class yet, when he’s performed better than basically any new coach since he arrived at LSU.

Did you present it as an opinion? Or did you tell me that it was too early to post this with no useful input whatsoever? I’m completely open to other opinions, I’m not open to someone shitting up my thread because you’re on a negativity streak and created a strawman so you’d have something to complain about

What about Oklahoma?

OU did exceptionally well due to their national recruiting. LSU was a bit different because the core class was instate and LA was a bit down in rankings. Our top 3 LA recruits were ranked 30s nationally.

What happened to this God that USC hired to be their head coach?

Looks like a complete dud.
