Saw this being talked about on the Anthony cook thread. He's fallen to a four star and is fell from the 2nd best corner composite to the 5th (13th according to 247!). Similarly, 247 now has terrace Marshall and Justin rogers as 4 stars. What's up?

Who cares? Just win football games and put kids in the NFL. Star systems don’t mean crap. Draft positions tell the truth. In 3-4 years when these boys are getting their names called, Barton can explain how it was the system or some BS that got them drafted that high.

Same old story, new recruiting year. These rankings are dropped intentionally to keep LSU from looking better. That sounds far fetched, but look at how many have gone to the NFL.

Coaches use these team rankings when they attempt to close with recruits. "How'd you like to be part of the #1 class in the nation?". It holds weight with some kids.

It's no coincidence that many of these recruiting services are run by Bama turds.

That's why coaches evaluate recruits. You take the best players regardless of stars.

Well, on one side of the coin you have the fact that their HS seasons are now done and there's valid information to make some adjustments.

One could say there's no way they are able to include all that information... but we are talking some attention garnering players here, so they likely have been watching.

On the other hand...
There's enough WTF moments in both drops and rises that dispels any notion that they are objective enough.

One thing to keep in mind, or I try to remember, just because a player drops doesn't mean he got worse, the other player(s) might have just got better. It is a zero-sum game here. This is another reason why not to star gaze. While stars, more accurately the correlations, do matter... they are not THE tale of the tape. The kid that was good at the beginning of the year is still good IF that ranked dropped because the other kid got way better.

The Cook ranking has to be some kind of glitch or something. If not, then the decline of 247 is real.

Doesn’t bother me at all honestly. Dropping down a star doesn’t change talent. Cook is a beast and that’s all I’m worried about.

It means LSU is getting Surtain and Cook. Can't have LSU getting the #1 & #2 corners
