Not recruiting info, but if you haven't taken young kids to a softball game and sat in the outfield you're missing out. One of the most laid back / enjoyable LSU experiences I've had.
It was easy to park, concession lines weren't long, and it's fun fast sport to watch.

This is awesome write-up, just saw it from a few months ago. I still believe it will be tough season, talent is far below what left, the strength will be pitching with Berzon. I would doubt they host a regional and finish in the bottom 1/3 of the conference, the lack of true juniors and senior position players is glaring.

I get the feeling she really struggles balancing the lifestyle a head coach demands at this level and missing her kids growing up, and I'm not being critical if her priority is her kids then maybe she needs a lifestyle change
Said this very thing two years ago as it’s plain as day. Who can blame her though?? I can’t. Set for life so enjoy your kids.

I really don’t get the hate for Torina. Constantly has great recruiting classes, constantly finishes in the top 16. 4 WCWS appearances, 7 super regional appearances. LSU appeared in 2 WCWS and 2 Super Regionals before Torina got here. She has literally raised the bar. Everyone complained about her staff, she now has a brand new staff. Complaining about the lack of returning starters. Yeah that’s what happens when you start 7 seniors (which had you ranked number 1 at some point last year). Only reason they didn’t make the world series last year is because they couldn’t beat Canady twice.
Like she’s a successful coach, not a ton of roster turnover which means players like her, great leader, great recruiter. The grass isn’t always greener. I think Torina is great and not a big worry for the AD. Now Volleyball is a different discussion…

I’ve concluded Beth isn’t going anywhere until she wants to, so nothing to do but root for this team and hope we can compete in this insanely tough expanded SEC.

I don’t think anyone hates Beth Torina, but just like we football we discuss the pro’s and cons of this season, other than the pitching staff and a few players it will be a inexperienced less talented team than what we had last yr. Maybe by the end of the yr this team will develop and have a chance to do damage in postseason…that’s the hope anyway.

It’s not “hate”. She’s Les miles of softball at LSU. Good coach had early success and then came the mediocrity. Same thing with Pawl. Taking care of their friends even though it’s detrimental to the program. If you as a softball fan love her to death then keep her but she will NEVER bring LSU softball to what it could be and has been at best average.

And this is pretty much the way it is and as I indicated in my previous post, nothing to do but accept it. I agree with a previous poster that Beth and LSU softball are a “safe” area for Scott Woodward. It’s obvious he’s never going to fire her for not reaching the program’s potential and yes, we should be in the WCWS at least half the time with our facilities and investment.
But unless the program just tanks, it’s obvious now Beth is here as long as she wants to be. Softball is low stakes for SW and I think he likes that he can point and say “See? I don’t fire every coach.” Hey, at least Dobson is gone so we’ll see how much of the problem he was.
But for the last five years or so, we said every preseason, “this is the make or break year for Beth!” Despite underperforming, it never happened and it obviously won’t. So no more complaining from me. Won’t do any good. I’m just going to root for us to do the best we can, watch on TV and go to some games—assuming that idiot is not behind home plate ruining it for everyone.

Dobson was a scapegoat for poor recruiting, he is the same coach that had Bianca Bell, Bailey Landry, Sanchez and others. What has changed? The talent has changed and allowing Leftwich to do hitting changed everything too. I’m not here to argue whether Leftwich was good or bad I am saying multiple hitting coaches does not work. Until recruiting picks back up then the results will be what they have been, the last committed class is elite but the current roster despite all the glorious rankings isn’t great. There is a reason Oklahoma has been great and it’s not because Gasso is the greatest ever or JT Gasso is the great hitting guy ever, it’s because they evaluated and recruited great. Florida was down for a couple of years, how did they get back to greatness last yr? Walton went out and got elite players, he was still the same coach that was down for a couple yrs but has better players now. Fix evaluation and recruiting and Torina will be back in the WS, she is still the same coach as the 4 WS just needs to fix recruiting and the last committed class last November is a great start.

who replaced [Dobson] on staff?
Actually no one. Looks like softball will indeed be the victim of some of these new budget realities.
No new full time decorated assistant was hired. There are now two graduate assistants instead of the usual one—Taylor Pleasants and Ciara Briggs, to fill out the numbers. That seems to be Beth’s thing to make previous year seniors into graduate student coaches. Allie Walljasper and Amanda Doyle lately filled those roles.

Neal took over hitting and Simmons the former great player is on staff. Simmons is an elite outfield and slapping coach. Neal is highly regarded nationally as one of the top hitting coaches in the country. I’m sure Torina will add a 3rd assistant in the summer, it was very late in the process to hire someone from another team. Evaluate and recruit better and they will be back in the WS. Corey Raymond is an elite secondary coach, one of the very best in the country…why was the secondary not very good last yr? He didn’t have great players hence the portal secondary guys… recruiting is the life blood of any program, miss on players and you will struggle

Doesn’t matter. Beth is a mom not a coach at Sec level. And congrats to her id want my wife to be the same thing.

The NCAA changed the rules a couple of years ago. Softball “countable coaches” increased from three to 4 and volunteer coaches were eliminated. Sandy was a volunteer coach but that became impermissible.
What’s not clear is whether GAs are “countable coaches”. If they are, then the staff is full with Briggs and Pleasants.
Nearly all coaches in every sport start as GAs, having GAs on staff is decades old. Briggs and Pleasants want to be coaches, why would we let that talent GA at another school?

Clearly, you haven’t been to any SEC road games. I like Tiger Park, but it’s on par with its conference peers. West Coast teams have long had better facilities. All of these teams can’t be in the WCWS every other year.

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. As a manger, hanging on to staff from previous regimes just so you can say look what I didn’t do, is how you lose your management position.

Outside of Oregon what west coast stadium is nice? UCLA is a dump!! Stanford will be nice but it’s not built yet and has been a dump for yrs. The SEC by far has the best facilities especially when you add Oklahoma’s new stadium

Hell, perennial cellar dwelling Ole Miss just built a new stadium, should they be on the WCWS every other year now?
