We are at #5 this year also, even after:
Huge renovations/new locker room
#1 football team
Won almost every individual award out there
Made the playoffs
Beat Bama
Picked up Brady
Heisman winner

WhAt gives?

Because everything you listed doesn’t mean it is a priority for the individuals being recruited

Bama had the edge on us every year prior because they beat us 8 times in a row.
We had a boring offense before this year now we have the best.
Had horrible QB play until this year.
Kids want to play on a championship caliber team. We are there now, and wasn't before.

Looks like we did all the check marks

Because none of what you stated has had time to reap the rewards. If we win it all a number 1 class will most likely follow.

Recruiting is a 2-3 year process- the last 4 months will yield dividends in 2021 and 2022

Typically a successful season really affects the following cycle. You know these kids have been recruited for many years and a lot of the schools LSU are competing with have had those advantages the last few years.

Also, stop bitching about a top 5 class, that's really good. They have 19 signees who all of which are elite prospects and will add several more. This is the best the program has looked overall in over a decade, including recruiting.

Last year LSU had 284 total points with 25 signed prospects.

So far this year, they have 288 total points with 19 signed prospects if you remove Lorando Johnson and CamRon Jackson.

Also after 247 updates those points will go up.

UGAs class amazes me. Their offense is average yet they pull in the 5 stars like crazy.

This impresses the HS freshmen and sophomores, maybe the juniors. Seniors have already formed their opinions.

Down year as for as Louisiana prospects go.

Last year LSU signed 9 LA players and this year only 5. LSU has had to go out of state. Also convincing players to leave momma isn't easy.

All of the success that you mentioned usually, does not pay off till the next recruiting cycle.

In previous years wit the state like it is LSU would finish in the 8-15 range. O is turning into a national brand to avoid those dips when the state is down.

People keep talking about our classes... None of our classes involved Joe Burrow so these arguments are silly.

And before someone jumps in and says Burrow counted towards 2 years ago, I am talking about high school commits.

If we solely went off our high school recruits we would not be where we are right now.

Recruitment isn't a one year process for starters

Additionally it's more important to recruit based on roster needs than get caught up in the whole recruiting rankings business

That and the classes aren't complete until NSD even though they're mostly complete.

Biggest issue is that Coach O is known as a coach who is dependent on his staff for success and recruits know those coaches will eventually move on. Recruits specifically go to Bama and Clemson for Saban and Dabo, while Orgeron isnt at there level YET. Make the CFP 2 or 3 times and that stereotype will be negated.
