I saw @ambettano post this on twitter, just curious what are yalls thoughts on her interpretation of lineups?

I think Alyona is pretty much a lock in the vault lineup, she was in AA on vault in her first year back vaulting. Another offseason with Bob will do her wonders. As much as I love Elena and Sami on vault, unless they can get a 10.0 vault rolling by January, it will be difficult to make the lineup given what we have coming in and with kids like Ryan pushing the envelope.

I think UB will be very competitive. Even though we return every routine, I think we could get better in a couple spots. Dismounts tell the tale on this event to me. Hopefully they find a fix here. How they construct Aleah's bars will be interesting to me.

BB, in my opinion considering the inconsistency and how erratic that event was last year, it should all be wide open. I think Dunne and Aleah could give us much better scoring potential, I just hope Gnat and Jay step in and adjust some of the routines in spots. Dean isn't going to be a flashy scorer but she is rock steady and that is pretty significant and is needed for us.

I don't know where to begin on Floor. That will be a war to break into. A lot of tremendous routines won't make a lineup unfortunately.

I agree Alyona should be a lock in the vault lineup. Otherwise I agree with the proposed lineup. I think Elena has a good chance to get in there with a 1.5 though. She showed a lot of development over the course of the year and of course used to have a DTY in her elite days.

I would like to see Dunne in on BB and FX. She does not have the biggest tumbling but she is clean, has good form, and ought to be a fairly steady competitor. I would also like to see Arenas in on bars, and perhaps get a couple of showings on floor.

I think the only real 'definites' for the fifth year seniors are Edwards on vault (reliable 10.0 even though she doesn't usually stick), Durante on bars, and maaaaaybe Desiderio and Dean on beam. I do like the idea of Dean going as leadoff for a steady start. Also, leadoffs tend to get hammered in scores so we wouldn't lose a ton of scoring potential there.

Very interested to see how Tatum and Finnegan look. Hopefully Aleah is not too worn down by the time she is done with elite.

Anyone know why edwards has such trouble sticking that vault? I know it’s hard to stick, but alyona a has stuck hers 2-3 times this year alone - I believe Sarah has only stuck it once or so in 4 years. To me it almost looks as though she has trained that step kind of like a safety measure? I am sure that is a hard habit to break.

Regardless of her sticking, I think vault is going to be fire and we should be able to put 6 10.0 vaults up (and agree also alyona is in and Kam if she can get some consistency - her exhibitions were so good). Bars seems like it should be much improved and hopefully gnat will be given some room to figure out lineups and routines that will work for beam. I would also say that the on,y two locks for floor are Johnson and Bryant (and please take out front double for last pass) and the rest of the spots will be a fight.

I would be interested to see what Jay would do if Kamryn is hitting her 1.5 and Elena moves up to a 1.5, would he keep in Sarah's hardly ever sticks 1.5.

I hope all the girls work in the off season to improve. Myia did while she was here, and Josie of UK did just last year to get into floor. I know it is their break but it would be nice to see them put in some extra work to better themselves for the team.

I think that if Jay and Gnat are smart, they make the changes in terms of routine construction needed, only keep those who can hit consistently under pressure, the beam lineup in my opinion should have these six girls (most likely in this order):
Bridget Dean
Haleigh Bryant
Olivia Dunne
TBD but either Tori, Alyona, Kai or Elena
Aleah Finnegan
Kiya Johnson

I don’t see Sami or Christina making the lineup unless it’s on a week where the coaches are wanting to rest someone due to ankle or achilles pain.

The list above contains the girls that have proven to be the most solid on the event and, for the most part across the board, hit when needed.

I think Campbell’s back issues keeps her from being in the lineup consistently but we may see her compete once or twice this year due to her experience.

Another one we shouldn’t discount for beam and who should be in the conversation is Sierra Ballard. She proved how phenomenal she is on floor this year but let us not forget that in JO, beam was actually one of her best events. Yes she also did a rotating leap, but she gets closer to hitting the full position without a wobble than most of the rest of our lineup. Even if we change her second leap to a split jump instead of a switch half, I can trust she’ll hit the 180 position in the air with pointed toes and not wobble. Her JO routine may need reworking in terms of what skills are left in or taken out but she’s solid on the event so that could help us a lot scoring wise.

Desiderio has always been so steady but for whatever reason she was shaky in the post season. Not sure I have an answer for that other than she didn't handle the nerves/pressure. She was rock solid all year then it felt like a different gymnast since the SEC Championships.

I think LSU NEEDS Dunne and Finnegan in the beam lineup. That event needs more natural beamers, and these two definitely give us that. Again, some of our success will come down to how they address the routine construction. Dunne might have a 9.9+ quality routine but if she does a switch half series, it might take a 9.90-9.925 caliber routine and sink it into the 9.8's if she isn't fully hitting the split position.

Kiya, its the same thing. I don't have an issue with the front toss, but water down her leaps. The switch half was a literal pain in the arse for her all year. She fell on it or had some type of break on it in almost every meet. She can be a consistent 9.9+ scorer. Lets help the girl out here.

Campbell if she is back in the beam lineup, I wonder if there is another dismount she could do. How often has she stuck or come close to sticking the double twist dismount?

Desiderio has struggled on beam all 4 years in post season (aside from her junior year since there was no post season). This was the first year she didn’t have a fall on beam, but the number of balance checks she ended up having I would say adds up to a fall in terms of scoring potential left on the floor.

I was just coming to comment on this. Desiderio lets the nerves get to her in post season. I remember she had a fall night one at NCAA's in 2018 and 2019.

Look we all know beam was a hot mess this year. They are so fortunate they even made it to NCAA's. They will have to do make some changes, and if they don't, well that's just a coaching fail. Practice is one thing, and competition is another. If they stick with same routines and the same lineups, it's going to be a long year as stacked as NCAA gymnastics is going to be this upcoming season.

Also, I do think Dean would make a great leadoff on beam. She is as steady as it comes, and her routine typically maxes out at 9.90, so LSU wouldn't be wasting a great score as they usually do.

I agree with all of this - but do you really think they would have all come back if they didn't' have assurances about competing? I do hope Jay was clear on spots that have to be earned, regardless of who has "experience" - because if we don't get Dunne, for example (but really any sophomore or freshman) in more events she is going to be a junior without competition "experience."

Olivia greaves is not competing at US classics and did not go to camp recently so she may be injured again. I don’t see Lily’s name on the classics roster either. Aleah is competing.

Lilly qualified to nationals already having made the national team I think. Not sure what the reasoning is for not competing in this meet but don't think she is injured.

Olivia has dealt with a lot of injuries over the last year, hope she isn't injured again.

Bryce Wilson won vault at level 10 nationals this morning! She came in 19th overall wise to trouble on floor.

Thats unfortunate, she could have easily won the JO AA national title considering the top scorer in this group.

Her vault is legit though

Pretty sure she has done a double all if not most of this season.

She has another year to clean up and develop some more consistency but she made a pretty dramatic jump in just 1 year. Looking forward to what she looks like with another full year of training

Missing out on Selena sucks. Will Never understand how that recruitment unfolded.

K. Johnson finished 4th on vault and 3rd on floor. Not her best bars and beam today unfortunately but the good news is she had a complete year of training and competition before LSU. She has the potential to make an immediate impact on the power events day 1.
