I think she could actually go higher on beam and floor if they would change her leap series. She crept up her scores all season so I would be excited to see what she could do next year.

Yeah, Katylyn Johnson worries me. She's been so injured, and the worst part is it sounded totally avoidable. She was basically training on stress fractures for 1.5 years! How do coaches not say there's something wrong, we need to check this out. End result rods and screws in both legs.

It's good Bryant, Arenas, and Dunne seem fairly healthy now. And not competing for this JO season will hopefully be kinder to their bodies.

As for working in the offseason, I think the big problem is that some of our recent classes were just quite beaten up when they came in. You can't really do much if you are trying to rehab major injuries or are having to manage them. It's more trying to get back to your former state rather than improvements. Myia seemed healthy when she came in.

I’ve seen that gymnastics gyms are shutting down due to the virus. Do the coaches and athletes have training plans in place? Who knows how long the gyms will be shut down for.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the gyms still allowed their Elites and college bound gymnasts come in to train. That would greatly keep the numbers down when you take out all the little kids and lower level gymnasts.

GAGE just shut down

Many of the gyms are letting the elites or college bound athletes to still train but under tighter restrictions. There is significantly less people though.

Are the gymnasts doing any kind of training or conditioning at LSU? Some colleges have sent home the students and they are completing studies on line. We all know gymnasts have to keep in condition so hopefully they have been given a plan to do so.

That’s an interesting question because technically we are still in the season and they can have mandated training. It’s during the off-season where they can only be “recommended” to do things and have to train on their own until a certain point before the season begins. I’m not sure if canceling the season means those restrictions take place immediately or not until they normally would have.

Well they don't necessarily have to train gym, they could run, do yoga, just generally work on flexibility and toe point. All of these things seem like they would help for next season.

Has anyone noticed that most of the colleges are sharing gymnastics videos, news and reflections on the season? LSU has been a virtual DEAD ZONE/MUTE with the exception of the very few pictures it posted of our Seniors with the ending of the season.

I'm not sure how much of this is just me making something out of nothing, but the teams social media presence seemed to me to be much less than previous years. not sure who's in charge of the Twitter and Instagram but it just seemed to me like they posted a lot less this year and frequently made errors. I agree though, I would have loved to see more of a thank you/farewell for our seniors

LSU gym social media has not been as active the last two years. They have also been extremely selective about what they want to show of the girls doing in the gym/training.

Unless they post some additional stuff in the coming weeks. Pretty poor way to showcase and honor the seniors besides those 4 pictures on Twitter. Would have been nice to see a video with maybe a clip or two of their final routines of their careers. The Texas meet was their last official meet, and it was ran like a third world country with horrible coverage and operations. Maybe a video highlighting the season and what some accomplished. At least give the seniors a proper dedication video or spot light write up. Edney and Ruby contributed greatly to the success of this program. Kirby’s career was unfortunately cut short due to nagging injuries.

I am also curious if they will give out awards for gymnasts. Trinity is my SEC gymnast of the year and Kiya is freshmen of the year.

It would be great to honor the seniors at the first home meet next season if it can be worked out with their schedules. Even if they are not performing one last routine an Assembly Center salute to these outstanding ladies is well deserved. Hope it can be accomplished.

I totally agree. It is frustrating to end the season without MORE POSITIVE showcasing of the Seniors and routines worthy of mention. There are several things that need to change with LSU Gymnastics ranging from routine composition, season preparation and informing/rallying the fan base on social Media. DD/Jay could have put together a special acknowledgement of the season and Seniors with a final episode with Mike Smith on "Inside LSU Gymnastics".We can only hope change will come for the 20/21 season.

It makes me think about LSU football social media and what a presence they were, especially during post season. A new hype video each day leading up to the NC and just did many other posts and videos. I know there’s a huge difference between football and gymnastics, but it would have been nice to have seen more this season. I hope next year will be better in that regard.

I agree that it would be great to honor the seniors at the first home meet next year. Doesn’t sound like something that would be too hard to pull off.

I really hope too that they give out SEC awards and don’t see why they couldn’t. They gave out the SEC scholar award so hopefully that’s a good sign. I agree with trinity and Kota getting gymnast and freshman awards, who’d I you all think would get specialist?

For specialist maybe Helen Hu on BB? Schoenherr on UB?

Would Hu qualify as specialist? I thought she competed AA all season. I know beam is her best event but specialist awards have always been for those who do no compete AA, right? Freshmen will come down to Kiya or Hu and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hu get it as she seems to have more backing based on previous weeks votes.

Hu didn't compete AA in 4 of the 10 meets.

Kiya was withheld from the AA on purpose the last 2-3 weeks which cost her some awards. They also gave awards out to other kids the first two weeks on purpose at the beginning of the year despite Kiya having superior performances. They gave Worley from Kentucky SEC freshmen of the week for finishing 3rd in the AA with a far lower AA score than Kiya Johnson, who won the AA on the road at Georgia. They purposely gave other kids awards because they knew certain one would pretty much win most of them.

Lets compare resumes

Kiya Johnson:

-SEC freshmen of the week- 4x
-SEC gymnast of the week- 1x
-Perfect 10 (2) on beam and vault
-Ranked #6 Nationally in the AA
-Ranked #4 Nationally on vault
-Ranked #39 Nationally on bars
-Ranked #27 nationally on beam
-Ranked #2 nationally on floor

Helen Hu:

-SEC Freshmen of the week- 3x
-SEC specialist of the week- 2x
-Ranked #35 nationally in the AA
- Ranked #154 nationally on vault
-Ranked #11 nationally on bars
-Ranked #5 nationally on beam
-Ranked #233 nationally on floor

I think its obvious who it is but thats just me....
