Our juniors have been disappointing on beam this year. Cant seem to get out of their own way. They botch floor badly last week then turn around and botch beam this week.

I am also trying to figure out how they will not give Kiya the SEC Freshmen of the week this week.

I couldn’t see, but I assume Kennedi stepped out on her first pass?

Oh god, here we go.. It seems like each week a different event is an issue. My thoughts, overall:

We are looking great on vault. Agree on the comment about Kai. It was a good Yfull. We all know that if it was an Oklahoma-whatever-first-routine it would go 9.875, which is sad. Rau is getting better. Excited to see what she brings to this lineup. Sarah was fantastic and also Ruby. I think Ruby will be a rock for us in the postseason. Kiya doing Kiya things and Kennedi also looking very good.

Bars was also nice. Glad to see Dean clean up a bit. Kai also looked better. Honestly don't know where Sami's deductions come from... Kennedi usual solid. I keep believing that they should come up with a new dismount for Ruby, but anyways.

Beam. Ok. I think it's just nerves. I mean, y'all saw Reagan on that perfect bhs loso to a... FALL.

Floor was a bit better. I mean, Liv!!!! and Reagan!!! I was so happy for them. Finally they are finding those last passes' landings.

Overall: we keep moving forward, I guess. Still, lots of potential.

So when Desiderio gets healthy, who loses their beam spot? Dean or Durante? Kai has been better than both. Durante has fallen twice and Dean has fell once.

Also, I gotta go back and watch a few meets, but Arkansas outscored LSU tonight. Also Alabama just scored over a 197. Not sure how the scoring was for these meets.

Scoring is inconsistent across the board. The RQS is calculated by taking a team’s top six scores from the season, of which at least three must have been scored on the road, removing the high score, and averaging the remaining five.

We got time to turn this around but the upperclassmen have to stop having major breakdowns on events each week. Its disappointing to see what would have been a very solid 197+ team score derailed because our upperclassmen on beam can't get through a routine.

Idk, Durante has a much higher potential. Dean has botched all 3 of her routines so far but has only fell once.

Dean has too many form issues between bent knees and lack of split on leaps. Even if she does hit she is limited score wise.

Also I know Kiya can do that beam routine great but that routine makes me a nervous wreck. They have too much going on in it. They need to be doing the bare minimum as possible as long as they get to a 10 start value. Throwing all this unnecessary additional difficulty dramatically increases her risk of screwing up and its a lot of stress on her to hit all those skills. She makes Finnegan's routine look like a breeze.

I would also like to see Kai change her first leap. She doesn't come close to hitting that leap. Other than that I see a lot of potential for improvement for that routine to score well. Leaps are the big priority.

I guess one positive note is that Alyona got a chance to just soak in the PMAC atmosphere. I’m kinda happy she wasn’t used tonight. She’s clearly not ready yet.

I would say Dean as well. Just getting to watch the meet now and I’m on floor. So so happy for Sarah and her vault! Amazing!!!

They only have nine more meets before the SEC Championship. That means they’ll have to hit 6 out of the next 9. Is it doable? Definitely. But injuries are playing a big role.

Also, you don’t want to be outside the top 6 in NQS in order to get a decent seed at Regionals. That’s where Michigan and Alabama found themselves last year (with UCLA a lock to go through).

Not disagreeing with you at all. There has to be a sense of urgency. Upperclassmen have to get it together. You can't go and perform well on 2 events then fall apart on one event. One bad event easily sends you into the 196's. Its a 4 event meet.

We miss last years seniors badly. The difference between that group and our juniors/seniors is we know what we are getting each weekend from them. This group we don't know what the hell we are getting.

We need Desiderio back badly to help stabilize beam and we have to clean up bars and find a way for Alyona to get in stride. I'm pleased with Kiya and Kai so far, both are getting better each week. As freshmen, we can't ask any more from them at this point. We are throwing them into the fire and they are handling it.

Florida is going to be tough. Highly doubt we win if they hit but I am more concerned on how we score moving forward.

Totally agree with you. I’d rather see some strong 197 scores rather than worry about wins and losses.

In my opinion, tonight was EXTREMELY promising! If you put together all of our highest scores from all 3 meets, you get 197.9! Once this team puts it all together, they’re going to crush it! Regan falling on beam was a fluke, and honestly I doubt Sami will have problems going forward. Better to have these struggles on the front end than at the end of the season. I was super bummed about our final score tonight because it in no way reflects what this team is capable of. I believe in this team and KNOW they will have an amazing story to tell come post season! ??

I agree with you Tigerbait. By the third meet last year the team was in the 197 range and this team is still behind the eight ball. Our ranking continues to slip while other teams are getting it together. There is greatness and bright spots in our competitions but also missed opportunities that are vital to a positive outcome. I expected more from the upper classmen. They need to start delivering to preserve the legacy of past teams.I have been a supporter and avid fan of LSU Gymnastics for 29 years. It has been quite the journey and pleasure to watch the evolution of this fabulous program. Our success is crucial in recruiting and public support. Forever LSU!

Campbell's was a complete fluke, she doesn't even fall in practice. If she ever has issues its only on the leap series. Durante has always had some hesitation/confidence issues with her Back Handspring Layout Stepout, she let her bobble in the beginning completely destroy that routine.

Hopefully Alyona can get going soon, we need her and Desiderio.

Watching the OU/Alabama meet was irritating for too many reasons. The judging was bogus across the board. A lot of career highs. I'm watching teams land short on their fulls, taking large steps scoring 9.85's. So many bobbles, lack of split, and uncontrolled dismounts on beam scoring high 9.8's or even 9.9. Floor they don't even deduct for uncontrolled landings and low chest positions. It simply wasn't even realistic.

And the excitement continues on the recruiting trail. LSU signee Haleigh Bryant got a 10 on vault today. She is supposedly qualified to the Nastia liukin cup

More updates to follow on a few commits who compete this weekend

So I’m a numbers person! I’m also a school administrator which means that I am constantly looking at data and comparing/problem solving!

When I put my skills to work on our team, here is what I find!

The GREAT:

Vault!!! Average of first three meets for 2019 season was 49.075. Average of first three meets for 2020 season is 49.308. This puts us about .225 points ahead of this point last year! What a bright spot with more to come!

In taking the highest score on each apparatus throughout the first three weeks of the 2019 season and comparing it with our 2020 season, we have a higher score in everything except bars:

Vault 2019: 49.250 (week 3)
Vault 2020: 49.425 (week2)

Beam 2019: 49.325 (week 1)
Beam 2020: 49.575 (week 2)

Floor 2019: 49.350 (week 3)
Floor 2020: 49.375 (week3)

I’m looking forward to seeing our team put it all together. And when they do it’s going to surprise a lot of folks who have already written LSU off for the season! Only way to go from here is UP!

Next week at Florida will be big for us! Praying our girls are ready to go mentally and physically next week! I can’t wait to watch them!

I wasn't there but none that I was aware of. I know Selena Harris is working to get back at some point. Recruiting news may be a bit more scarce as the new recruiting rules are currently in place. LSU can only contact through 2021 class until this summer.

Olivia Tumbling

Now official, Bryant will be competing at the Nastia Liukin Cup.

Also breaking, Annie Beard got a 10 tonight during the Kim Zmeskal Texas Prime Meet.
