I said it months ago, and I'll say it again. Kailin Chio will be a star at LSU

There is a lot of talk on Social Media as to why KJ and Alexis were not a part of the program last night. Jay was asked about it and stated it was an "internal issue" for those two whatever that encompasses. A lot was said about Lexi's form on vault and floor and Annie falling and walking away from the beam routine. These people look for things so they can be critical of teams and especially so of LSU. We had some promising performances from the team with some needing more time to polish before the season begins. We all know there will be expectations from many for the team to be stellar this season as the Nat'l Champions. I'm sure Jay and the coaches are aware of the mentality needed as this season begins in January.

I really liked what I saw out of Coen last night. And Drayton showcasing how much she can bring to the non leg events.
Zeiss I wonder for vault if they can change it to a tucked one, if the knees are going to be consistently that bent tbh. Her bars are very nice though

I don’t think it necessarily comes from a bad place, though. I too was a bit worried about KJ's and Alexis' statuses, as they are key contributors for the team.
Beard's situation honestly just makes most of the gymternet sad. We all know how amazing her beam work is, but it just hasn’t ever clicked in college. I was really hoping she’d hit last night to make a statement for herself.
About Lexi, it’s strange because her vault was looking pretty good at the intrasquads. I reckon the videos didn’t show her knees too much, but still... I’m hoping yesterday’s vault was just a fluke.
Pleasent surprises for me were Kaliya flaring that 1.5 out and Coen's gymnastics overall. Chio ofc was lights out on everything, as expected.
Edit: stocks went up for double full dismounts off beam!

Just finished watching. You could really tell livvy put in a lot of work this summer. Please do not let Lexi do two wolf turns. There were some misshaps but this was expected. Personally I think we are deeper than last year. And chio is are future all around. Every pass on vault looks like it will be 10 start value unless jk is in it. And glad to see all but one routine on floor will be two passes. Why not, Oklahoma gets away with it every year. This team has the makeup of winning another title.

Do you know if Alexis is still dealing with her vertigo? I get it for days at a time and it’s pretty miserable.

Reddit and X folks are speculating that Annie has retired based on her last Instagram post.

I kind of thought that, too. Mostly based on the comments from her teammates.

Finally catching up with 101. We should be in good stead with four AAers with basically no built in deductions (Haleigh, Aleah, Chio, Drayton). Chio has a really uncanny way of finding a stick on any landing even if she was off in the air. Quite a lot of other options to fill out the remaining lineup spots. I think we are quite deep this year even with the injury issues to the former elites Lincoln and Miller.
I was most surprised by how good Dunne looked in 101. She has obviously put in a lot of work in the offseason. In most previous years I would say her routine should be in the beam lineup but this year we are so deep. The ring jumps in her floor should be removed right away though.
Also super nice to see Coen out. She was a big recruit for us before her injuries in the final seasons of her JO career. Is she not able to do bars anymore? I recall she was a very strong bars worker.
Hoping we can get the freshmen and sophmores into bigger roles this year as we will need them to have experience. Next year we will lose the 5th years and senior classes, and the current junior class is not big and hasn't been hugely contributing lineup routines.

Bryant is injured, out for at least one meet

[quote] LSU gymnast Haleigh Bryant likely to miss Tigers' season opener with injury, coach says
An elbow injury has sidelined All-American gymnast Haleigh Bryant’s
return for a fifth season at LSU, at least for now.
Bryant will likely miss the No. 2-ranked Tigers’ Jan. 3 season opener against Iowa State and possibly more meets, coach Jay Clark said Thursday.
Bryant injured the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in her elbow while executing a vault during LSU’s Gymnastics 101 exhibition meet on Dec. 16, Clark said. She tweaked the same elbow during NCAA regional competition in April.
After opening on uneven bars, Bryant planted low on the vault table and appeared to jam her elbow before completing the routine and hitting her landing. As was the case in April, Bryant kept performing during the exhibition, doing routines on floor and balance beam. Clark said she started to experience discomfort in the elbow the following morning.
“We had imagery taken” of the elbow, Clark said. “There’s no fracture or break or anything. It’s a UCL strain. I don’t know the specific diagnosis, but it sounds like it aggravated what she did before.”
The UCL connects the upper arm bone to the forearm bone on the inside of the elbow and acts to stabilize its motion.
Clark said Bryant, the reigning NCAA and Southeastern Conference all-around champion, will not require surgery, but is shut down from practicing and competing for now. The Tigers began returning to practice Thursday from their Christmas break.
Clark said Bryant told him recently that she was not experiencing any pain, but Clark stressed that Bryant was not doing any gymnastics routines, either.
He also emphasized that there is a high degree of uncertainty as to how long Bryant might be out.
“Everything I’ve been told so far is that we would anticipate her being back,” Clark said. “It’s a matter of when, not if.
“I don’t anticipate her competing in the first several meets at this point, but I don’t know for sure. Not unless I get hit with a surprise, which has happened before with her. She had the plantar fascia (foot injury) several years ago. I was told it would be weeks and it was four days.”
Bryant, 23, announced in late April that she would return for a fifth and final season at LSU. She is arguably already the Tigers’ greatest gymnast ever, with two NCAA titles, three SEC titles and 18 perfect 10s among her 94 individual victories.

It’s gonna suck not having Haleigh potentially for the quad and maybe Florida meet if that drags out.
I’d assume Brock/Lincoln will come in on vault, Zeiss on bars, Drayton on beam, and on floor we have lot of options

Who do you think will go second on beam (ie the Sav/Annie Beard spot)? And do you know if KJ and Alexis will be available for the first meet?

I could see Coen/Drayton both look pretty good to me.

Has there been any news regarding Beard? Hopefully she hasn’t retired. I’d love to see her get her confidence back and compete for a beam spot.

I could be wrong but it seems from IG that Annie didn’t return to campus yet whereas the other have.

Just hopeful we can get injuries out of the way early in the season and then be done with them!

Ok, so rewatched gym 101 in light of injury reports, so here is what I think the lineups will be on Friday. I have assumed KJ and Alexis are available.
Vault:
KJ, Brock, Drayton, Chio, Lincoln, Finnegan. If KJ isn’t available, I’d probably give Roberts a chance (though I imagine Jay would go with Zeiss first, or schennikova if in vaulting form). With Roberts, though I would probably put her in the sixth spot and move everyone down, but switch Drayton and Brock since Brock can get nervy. All of that to say, with a healthy Bryant, there isn’t really room for KJ’s admittedly wonderful full.
Bars: Dunne, Drayton/zeiss, Cowan, Chio, McClain, Finnegan. I know Jeffrey is an option, but with her deep landing I honestly like how livvy is looking and think she has experience for the lead off. Jeffrey could always lead off and Dunne could take the two spot, but I think Dayton and Zeiss should get experience. Tatum is also good as a backup. I have no faith Jay won’t put schennikova in … but that dismount is still so crazy and we have much better options.
Beam: Ballard, Dunne, Drayton, Chio, McClain, Finnegan. They might to consider bringing in someone to replace Ballard eventually to get ready for next year (maybe Coen once she is available or even Drayton ). I think Dunne looks good on beam, though am a bit worried about her four leaps in a row from 101…
Floor: not particularly worried about this as I think this will change the most throughout the year, but I think it will be Ballard, Dunne/brock, Drayton, Chio, KJ, Finnegan, with the other of dunne/brock in if KJ is out. I imagine Zeiss will be an alternate at first, but if she cleans up her form and landings i suspect she’ll see some time as well.
Let me know your thoughts. Honestly the depth is real with this team and they should have the pieces to make another run.
