Not trying to be a Debbie downer but I think this team is in trouble this year. Really Simone, jade, and suni are the only locks in my opinion that can medal. Also and don’t hate me for saying this but if Jordan makes it and it’s just the same faces as last time…boring. I hope shilese and kayliya make it.

ETA: nothing against her personally since I don’t know her but I find Leann’s gymnastics boring. She will make it I’m sure and continue to get her college gift scores off her name.

Kaliya still has an opportunity to move up. She is ahead of several that got prime time attention tonight. Kaliya is 2nd on floor.

I can't believe NBC didn't show Kaliya's floor routine while constantly showing gymnasts standing there and taping themselves. Makes you appreciate NCAA gymnastics coverage.

Florida must be very happy now they took a chance on Selena. Kayla’s could be Achilles too.

Unfortunately, I think USAG primes NbC for whose is likely to make it. Kaliya’s strength aren’t prime for the team with the injuries to Kayla, skye, and shilese. She is generally unusable on bars which is where they are looking for a backup. This is even more true if jade is on the team - which is why Tiana and Jocelyn are also less likely then Hezly, even though I think both are ahead of her now. It’s unfortunate because Kaliya is great and almost there - but I think her strengths (or more accurately her weaknesses) probably don’t align with the team this time around.

I think the real person they are discounting right now is Leanne - she is not the flashiest and she had mistakes on beam/floor tonight, but to me she is the obvious number 5 in a team of Simone, Jordan, suni, and Jade. She can cover them reasonably well in every apparatus and her bars are close to or actually on par with Jordan’s.

Kaliya is an awesome athlete. Her floor ability is admirable and is only second to Simone.

My comment had nothing to do with her ability on floor - I know she is amazing on floor. Unfortunately, she is not so much more amazing on floor to make up for her weaknesses on other areas so as to make a compelling case for herself for this team (and when I say weakness I mean only comparatively as to a very high level elite gymnastics athlete).

If you’ll note in my comment, I said it was a shame and she is so close - I was just offering some commentary why, probably almost regardless of where she is in the final standings, she won’t truly be considered for THIS team as an explanation as to why they didn’t show her floor last night on the main broadcast.

My post was not in response to your comment. You were the last person to comment on TD, so I hit reply to make my comment which happened to be from your post.

I still think shi has a very good chance to make it depending on what they find out today about her knee. If she were to make it. I see her, Simone, suni, Jordan, and jade. Pretty much last years team plus shi. If shi doesn’t make it I prefer hezley. But I could also see another floor/vaulter making it because suni can do floor better than jade to me. Jade has no artistry. Suni was beautiful last night.

Haha - apologies then! I was downvoted for a reasonable comment and had your reply right after so I thought I had been misunderstood!

She posted it is her Achilles. Sad for her.

ETA: now I read where shi is not competing tonight. I wonder if they could still take her since she did bars last night. Otherwise this team is bad score anemic.

Its over for her now, really sad the athletes train their entire lives and it all ends because of a injury at the most inopportune time

I didn’t know if she could still make the team since she competed bars night 1. This team really needed her bars score. I don’t know how they’re going to pick now. Leanne really adds nothing substantial other than being okay in all events but great in none. Plus you already have that with Jordan. I would try to find another specialist if I was Alicia. Like maybe Kaliyah. lol

Need someone to compliment Jade since Suni, Simone and Jordan are top three AA. Best compliment to Jade is Hezley, who also provides backup vault and floor.

My prediction for traveling alternate is Leanne and whomever of Josc/ Tiana/Kaliya has the best vt/ beam / floor score.

Florida’s routines next year could be same as last year just subbing Selena for Victoria and maybe Riley in on bars/beam. I think we’ll have a good shot of staying on the top 2 with OU.

As I previously mentioned, that’s why Hezly is getting the screen time. I still think they are overlooking Leanne (who I agree doesn’t add as much as Hezly in potential, but does add more from experience no matter how “inconsistent” she has been this (elite) year)

But if you are to go by NBC’s narrative (a safe bet to be fair) the team is Simone Jordan suni jade Hezly (with I thin an outside shot for Leanne, Jocelyn, and Tiana

Don't know if I am just too cautious but taking a first year senior with not that much junior int'l experience worries me. Yes, it's been done before (Laurie Hernandez for 2016, Kyla Ross for 2012) but those two did quite a lot more competition at the junior level than Hezly. Leanne worries me less as a more 'mature' athlete. She may not put up the highest score BUT she is not likely to count a 11 or something with a meltdown.

Saw a comment that said that Gabby Douglas would've been perfect for the last spot...

Also, pretty rough for Florida. One of the reasons why picking loads of elites, even if top ones, is risky due to injury risk & history.

Leanne counted an 11 something on beam at worlds last year. She’s still in it for sure - if Hezly falls today and Leanne doesn’t I think Leanne goes. Hezly just seems to be peaking at the right time. There’s something with new seniors/rookies sometimes where theyre able to really focus and don’t fully comprehend the magnitude of pressure they’re under that can work in their favor. That being said with Valeri’s track record I don’t think she’ll have a long or healthy senior career.
