I doubt Hill is gone. He wasn’t great, but got slightly better as the season progressed, and we need a backup point guard. Also he played a lot near the end of the season. Either Cornelius and Coleman could be gone, but losing both depends on what we get in the transfers, because we only have 1 big man signed, and he has to replace KJ. Justice could be gone, since we have a replacement signed, and he hasn’t progressed. The thing that bothers me about losing Justice Williams is that he has potential to be very good.

Hill shot 29% for the year. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone at this level play as much as he did with those kind of numbers. If he returns, it’s a sign that things aren’t going to get better and McMohan is too stubborn to adapt.

How does he even have any eligibility left. He came from JUCO and just completed his 3rd full season at D1, I guess maybe he only spent 1 year in JUCO?
Either way the way I look at it is if we dont have 5+ guys transfer out (if Hill has more eligibility) then McMahon isnt even trying.
We got 2 freshmen coming in, 1 definite goner in KJ, so that means for us to get 4-5 transfers which we absolutely need minimum (4), 5 more players need to leave. In that group I'm seeing Cornelius, Hill, Williams, Hannibal, Coleman or Wilkinson. I know some folks hate Miller but I think he was completely misused all season long, he is a better player than he showed easily, wouldnt want to lose him. Also dont want to lose the freshmen trio of Ward/Reed/Phillips nor Hayes/Fountain.
If we go out and get only 2-3 guys in the portal unless they are ALL absolutely game changers this team will suck again, zero doubt in my mind. McMahon needs to cut the dead weight and go get players.

COVID is going to give him 5 more years

You want to hear a crazy eligibility story? Adam Miller has 3 years of eligibility left plus his regular redshirt.

Yeah no way I can agree with this at all.
Hannibal is a 1 trick pony. He's a 6'1-6'2 guard who cant shoot nor handle the ball well and as soon as someone figures out all he can do is dribble drive to the bucket they put someone in the lane to take a charge and he's useless.
Hayes was far from consistent but his potential is so much higher than Hannibals.
FWIW I wouldnt want to lose either really and of that group I said take 5 guys out, he would be the last person i would take. I would rather bleed Coleman, Wilk, Justice, Hill and Cornelius first.

Hayes was atrocious at points

Outside of KJ Williams everyone on this entire team was, it's how we sucked
Again, Hannibal literally offers up very little for a 6'1-6'2 guard. You cant win with short guards who cant shoot today (nor really handle the point as an alternative). All he ever did was dribble drive to rim, he's pretty easy to defend. Hayes has a 3 point shot at least, can handle the ball as good or better and statistically their defense is very similar.
Hannibal made 1 three all season long, thats unheard of for a shorter guard in today's game who plays a significant amount (20+ min a game)

Or they don't get the charge call and he goes to the FT line. He had 8 less FT attempts than KJ on nearly 300 less shot attempts. He also rebounds very well for guard on a team with no rebounding.

Again not saying i want him to leave, but between Hayes and him it's no contest who I would rather stay. 1 is actually a versatile modern guard, the other is a short guard who plays like he's a 6'9 300 pound forward with some wheels.
Its very hard to win with guards who literally cant shoot the ball and play a lot.
the entire team basically sucked outside of KJ though. Not a single other player played like an SEC starter should. Hayes, Fountain, Hannibal these should all be backup guys getting 10-20 minutes a game max while other better players are getting 30-ish starter minutes.

In either case, to be successful, we need guards with more size and athleticism than either of these two. No one can stay in front of anyone

That says more about KJ’s lack of attempts. Hannibal averaged 3.8 attempts per game. It’s like y’all are trying to find silver linings to return the whole 2-16 roster. It won’t get better without significant upgrades. These 4th and 5th year guys who still can’t perform are not going to cut it.

He probably ain't gonna be able to flip the roster so it's likely most will be back. If they will give me the dude that can't shoot but has shown a couple talents that I'm positive will translate to next year over someone else that also can't shoot and hasn't shown much else.

Hayes is 10x the shooter Hannibal is, how can you even compare them. Hannibal literally doesnt shoot, it makes no sense because hes not even bad at the line...just uch a strange college basketball player in todays game that just dosnt really fit. Not sure you see anything that he can build on, the dude has been in college playing for 4 years on 3 different teams and been the same player basically and always has played some minutes everywhere.

He is better. He is also still bad. .05% from 3 better in his career. Even this year's high water mark was 32%, which is bad.

He's a way better shooter, he actually takes 3 point shots for 1 major difference. You might as well compare Ben Simmons 3 point shooting to Hayes as thats just about as relevant. I just cant believe you said he's a bad shooter in the same breath you said it for Hannibal like they are anything similar there.
And no, 32-33% 3 point isnt that bad for college, no it's not good, but there WAY WAY worse than that out there. He actually shot over 36% his first year in college from 3 (with osme volume) so not sure why we're even acting like either of the two are remotely comparable from 3.
The 2 Justices on the team this year shot basically gave no Justice for the 3 point shot by comparison.

i dunno that these guards who cannot shoot, hannibal and hill, have any real place in modern basketball. the defense sags off them and it hurts the offense.
all guards have to be able to shoot 3's reliably, are they a blight on the team. even non-shooting centers are fairly limiting these days. unless they are walker kessler and block everything, they need to be able to pull their opposing big out of the lane.
i say keep reed, ward, wilkinson, miller, justice williams, and philips, and everyone else can move on. the portal is gonna be overflowing with superior talent.

You cannot compare someone who almost never shoots a 3 to someone who actually does. This would be like saying Emmitt Williams was the best shooter on the 2019-20. Yeah his percentage was high but he made 8 all season long. Hannibal has made 14 CAREER 3 pointers over 4 seasons and only 1 his only season here. Hayes made 28 3's his true freshman season in college.

Hayes shot 36.4% his freshman year from 3 with some volume
