Rick Jones is known for that anyway, so he probably didn't think much of it.

only bad coaches do that. Just so happens that they coach at Barbe and used to coach at Jesuit(Moreau). But it seems Latino doesn't care either.

Overuse of arms. But he transfers blame to high school coaches whenever he gets accused of it.

i wish HS had college-like regionals for their playoffs but that's probably why they don't do that

I can't stand Jones but do you have anything to back that up?

Personal conversations with him. Link wise, no because you can't link conversations I have had in the recruiting process with him.

It's time for 5A to change their playoff format.
Or restrict the pitch counts of those participating in it.

I think they need to do some sort of series spread out over a larger time

You had a conversation with him where he said he doesn't care about overusing pitchers?

Do you have an example where he did overwork one of his pitchers?

It's 32 teams. Why not have 4 regionals that would be Friday and Saturday with 2 games on Saturday? Then the top 4 could either play single elimination the next Friday/Saturday or they could have two 3 game series. Then the next week have a 3 game series for the championship. The entire thing would be over in 2-3 weekends and you could stipulate that if a pitcher threw more than 2 innings he was done for that weekend.

Didn't he throw Barbe under the bus and say Tulane would never recruit there again? He said their pitchers are ruined once they leave Barbe due to overuse.

That's funny, because Rick Jones wont recruit Barbe players any more because he despises the way Glenn Cechnni has overused his pitchers.

It was a huge ordeal a few years ago when one of the recruits (Ryan Doiron i believe) had to have Tommy John. The kid pitched like the semi final and championship game in the same day for Barbe. as well as the 2nd round game.

i think you are making shite up. sorry. no coach would admit that anyway

I'm pretty sure this is the guy who had a brother being recruited by a bunch of big schools.

I can't believe Jones would tell that to a potential recruit's family.

Glenn is the coach

he has 2 sons. one was coming to LSU but was drafted by the Red sox. The other is a HS senior and is committed to Ole Miss and spurned LSU because of the dad and PM fighting. He'll be an early pick too

It was more about not having a number on pitchcounts. The closer the game is depends on the amount of pitches and not necc how the kid felt. Its all about wins nowadays for most coaches.

Not all, because I know a good many of coaches who do it the right way.

so you are saying Jones doesn't do it the right way?

i mean he's had several pitchers taken high in the draft. i dont think pro teams have many problems with his guys.

We have several guys at Tulane now with 1 going there next year, so its nothing against Tulane. Rick Jones may do it the right way, but in that sense, its more about wins than number of pitches thrown for the Green Wave.

The only example I can remember of Jones overworking a player was Shooter Hunt in the regional against Florida State.

In general, I don't think he has a reputation of overworking his pitching staff.

Either way, if you are affiliated with PBS you may not want to allude to one thing or another. Could be read by the wrong person and taken the wrong way.
