So if we go after non power 4 guys they need to be top 100 prospects? Dickinson hit over .300 in conference at LSU and it’s hard to imagine winning the CWS in 2025 without him. I hate to say just go after the P4 guys but prospect wise no one we brought in this past year was comparable to Dickinson in that regard. Dickinson was able to translate his skills to the SEC. The others weren’t. But like you said, how many non P4 guys are out there that are top 100 prospects with all the other intangibles he brought to the table? You nailed it with the unicorn comment.
I still think there is a role on the team for the guys like playoff Papi without having to depend on them to be everyday impact guys.
Pitching it might be a little easier to get away with because you have so many pitchers on the team so maybe you can be a little more aggressive with the lower level guys and let Nate develop them.
ETA: project, I know it’s too early but could there be anyone out there that could fit the Dickinson model if they were to enter the portal?

I don't think Cowan was a top 100 prospect. McManus wasn't a top 100 prospect. If you're looking for a super star? probably so yeah. But in general. scouts don't have to love them for Jay to love them.
I just don't think he really loved much of this portal class, outside of Yorke. Between his BB/K ratio, power potential, bat to ball ability, and family ties, I'm really shocked he floundered as much as he did.

I know nothing of the intangibles, but Jamie Laskofski from William & Mary would be my number one low major shortstop target. Played third as a freshman, shortstop this year. Fields good enough, .940 but with some highlight reel plays that tell you more is there.
Hits for power and average. Steals bases. Performed against power conference competition. Hits in the clutch. And doesn’t turn 20 until like November.

There’s a report out that Notre Dame is cutting baseball to 10.7 scholarships. Not sure of the veracity but it seems legit.
I think Bino Watters would be a good fit in Baton Rouge.
