Are any local guys here familiar with Dylan Champagne from Dutchtown? He is a freshman at Jones College, a strong JUCO in Mississippi. He's played 3rd base, catcher, and most recently shortstop at a listed 6'4" 215. 4 homers but 18 doubles. Slashing .389/.495/.569.

Looks like he was getting smaller school looks a QB and may have missed his SR year of baseball due to injury.

Just wondering if he's someone that could be getting looks from us down the road.

New JUCO name to monitor that we're looking at: Rayner Beene from Murray State College in Oklahoma: stats

2 way player. RHP and switch hitting shortstop. Hitting .390 with 34 XBH as a freshman. Jordan and Simpson both on him.

ETA: Previously had him listed as a sophomore in this post with pitching stats from last year, but those appear to be on his profile page in error and were someone else's stats. He's a freshman.

This is the type of player Jay needs to be recruiting to play at LSU. Project, have you heard of Aidan Mouton? I know he is currently signed and committed to Kansas but this is a kid who can field, hit, and run the bases. He would be a great addition to the infield for next year.

I've heard of him, but I haven't really kept up with him because he's been committed to Kansas for a while, so I wrote him off as not being an option. Looks like a good get for Fitzgerald and Coyne. Their whole starting line up currently is made up entirely of JUCO kids except for one guy from D2 and one guy from NAIA. They have a guy from LSUE starting for them right now.

Milam dropped from 144 to 218, or moved up from 218 to 144?

Dropped. The farthest right column is the current ranking, that goes to 400. The column to the left of that is the old ranking that went to 300. This is the 6th ranking they've done for this class, so I have some ranking history on guys that started off in the top 100.

Whats the cut off for guys to have a better than 50% to stay here as far as current players or come here as far as incoming freshman.

Like how far does Milam have to drop to consider coming back
or what pick does a top recruit have to drop to to consider taking his nil and coming here?

We had Omar Serna completely pull his name from the draft last year and he was rated 78th before doing so.

Landon Hodge signed for $1.1MM which was the value for the 66th pick (he was picked 106). We also lost River Hamilton for $500K.

So it really just depends on the player. As we got closer to the draft last year there was a lot of buzz of Hodge being signable for as little as $400k, once those rumors hit we made a concerted effort to lock down Serna. Hamilton always seemed to have his eyes on pro ball, signing for $500K just kind of cements that.

Hamilton had TJ not long after the draft. Hodge has not played in an official minor league game yet.

I specifically mentioned those guys because they were more fringey guys at various points in their recruitment. Guys like Ebel, Young, Fauske, etc were never fringe and were always longshots.

That's a big drop. What happened? He's the same size as the last ranking.

They didn't explain his drop in their blurb. And their article about biggest risers and fallers was focused more on guys that were in the top 100 recently.

It's weird because his performance has been trending up lately. I wonder if there is credence to the labrum injury rumors and that he's really considering coming back.

It's still too early to tell on some guys, but it's encouraging that guys like Santarelli and some of the OFs keep dropping.

The only guys I'd write off right now are Schmidt and Hirschkorn. That list will grow as we get closer to the draft.

I think players dropping helps a lot. I'm sure they daydream about spending that money. When the money they already spent in their heads starts decreasing they can get a chip on the shoulder. When a player is moving up it can have the opposite effect.

I just wanted to make a list of draft eligible current players that could return next year.

Milam, Junior
Curiel, Sophomore
Brown, Junior
Guidry, Redshirt Junior
Yamin, Redshirt Junior
Harden, Junior
Rizy, Sophomore
Moore, Junior
Noot, Redshirt Junior
Garcia, Junior
Primeaux, Redshirt Junior
Caraway, Junior
Sheerin, Redshirt Sophomore

Lachenmayer and Plog are listed as Sophomores but I'm not sure their ages.

Plog is not draft eligible. I've never found a birthday for Lachenmayer either.

On a different note: Mason Braun is scheduled to play for Cotuit in the Cape Cod League this summer. That gives us assignments for 4 of the freshmen so far.

Braun and Serna - Cape Cod
Patrick and Ruckert - Pacific Empire League

I think Clauss and Harden are scheduled for the La Crosse Loggers in the Northwoods league, but I haven't been able to confirm yet.

Do you think Jay's recent comments about putting a little more focus on high school recruits and develop, may equate to spending more money on those fringe players in the draft? Obviously, those 1st round guys are no shot. I'm wondering about those guys in the 50-100 range. Could Jay be considering bigger offers to those kids to get them to campus?
