I am more worried about the top of the 2026 class than I am about the 2027 class

but I trust Jay Johnson regardless

Yeah I’ve gotten beyond the people who are around my age having college aged kids since I have one of my own. The bad ones now are those who played when I was very clearly starting to get old and they’re starting to pop up with kids in high school.

updated 2028 rankings. Blessington from Sam Houston Rockets to the top of the list. Kid has a ton of potential if he can stay healthy and add weight. Potential to be upper 90s fastball.

scrolling through Perfect Game's commitment list and 26, 27 and 28 match the commits on this thread

How early can LSU offer prospects? Didn't they change the rules?

Perfect game has 4 commits for 2029 amd 2 commits for 2030. Are these even legit?
29 has Austin Graham, Jaxon Leger, Connor Plagge and Taylor Varisco
30 has Jacob Galvin and CJ Moog
Leger comes in at 5'4 100lbs - how do you project someone that young

That’s just going to be what his parents or coach listed when they had to create a profile for him to be added to a roster for a PG tournament when he was younger.

couple things

1) coaches can not speak to any student athlete until august 1st before their junior season.

2) the 2027 class was the last class that had a couple kids commit in 8th grade but they had to recommit as the offer was no longer valid until this past aug 1. That is why you are seeing Griffin and Downs recommit as the coaches have not spoken to them in 2 years since the rule was put in place

3) coaches can evaluate, watch them in practice, watch games, talk to coaches but no official contact with the player(this is D1 level I am speaking about)

4) Perfect Game- Parents have to update the information on the PG page as far as weight and height. Also PG does not verify what parents put nor do they verify if the parent/kid put that they committed. If they have not completed soph year aka not in the 2027 class as of now, ignore any commit info as that is kids putting that shite just because they think its cool and they dont understand. 99.99% of the time that is not done by a serious prospect

for example the first one you have listed...Austin Graham....he just hit 74 this summer before his freshman year...that is slow AF for a kid going into HS and there are 50 kids in the 2031 class that throw that right now.

here is the current PG top 50 for 2028

Dexter is the best player in this class, he is at Bufford and is just stupid both at the plate and on the mound.

tyler early, who has been the best player in the world for his age since 8, is from alexanderia area and initially played for Barnes Academy out of there. Then he played with the Gold Culture national team out of shreveport at 10 and then Deleon who owns Banditos got his parents really good jobs in the Houston Area and got them to move so Tyler could play for that Banditos team and attend Tomball HS.

he is like 6'2 230 and is not a reclass. Like i said...since he was 8 everyone has known him that is on the travel scene. When he played for team USA at 12...it was stupid how much better he was than every other kid. He is already hitting exit velos in the triple digits with wood and 90 off the mound and he just started 8th grade. He has been playing up in 14u majors except in the biggest tournaments for last 2 years swinging bbcor. If he somehow manages to not go to the draft expect a LSU & Texas battle.

Found the problem

Perfect game sucks unless you need to find the age of a player

i mean they have the best information as far as having everything in one place but you have to understand the youth system and how it works

they do host the best tournaments as far as who is attending, best national showcases and offer the best competition. also do a great job promoting the best kids

they suck from an admin side, are expensive af and if you arent top 100 they suck at promoting.

its mainly that they charge you for everything on the site and anything outside of articles and metrics on individual players is all parent or athlete inputs.

pbr site is as bad or worse imo.

There was quite a bit of discussion about 3 weeks ago of LSUE’s program. I had a chance to watch them scrimmage almost 2 weeks ago and it appears at first glance they have upgraded their talent. Nothing specific about any individual players, but from my perspective as a former American Legion coach I like what I saw overall. If I see more scrimmages in the near future I’ll try to make note of particular players.

It looked like, from the outside, that they had gone after a different caliber of player. I'm interested in any thoughts you have on guys there. Personally, I'm pulling for the two Opelousas Catholic kids. And the Clapinski kid from Catholic seems like an absolute gamer even though he's undersized.

Big news on the scouting front from MLB. Banning scouting of high schoolers from Oct 15 - Jan 15 and college players from Nov. 15 - Jan 15.

This is a positive development, IMO.

ETA: From the article:

quote:

MLB's policy could affect dozens of events held by Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report, the two companies that control the amateur space.

These events don't draw the type of players that MLB scouts need to see. Those kids have agents and advisors already shutting them down by then.

They draw super fringe kids whose entry fees are keeping these organizations afloat. And that's the type of shite that needs to be eliminated.

I don't often agree with moves made by MLB that impact the amateur baseball space, but I definitely support this one.
