Matt Schark, 1B/3B, Southern Illinois, SR
.340/.419/.732/1.151, 63R, 24HR, 80RBI, 23BB, 49K, 9-11SB

From BA:
Matt Schark, 1B, Southern Illinois

Few players in the country are matching the raw production of Schark, who added to his monstrous season with a five-homer week that also included a double and a flurry of RBIs. The righthanded slugger has been a force all spring, batting .338 with 20 home runs, 70 RBIs, 15 doubles and seven stolen bases through 51 games—one of the most dominant all-around stat lines in Division I.

We are on Schark. Will post stats shortly

He played at a big time JUCO south of St Louis, I've been following him for a while. Always been a HR hitter.

What do his draft prospects look like?

He’s a 23 year old R/R corner infielder from a mid major conference, so I’m guessing he’s in the portal to avoid Indy ball for a year.

Simpson, Dardar, and Schark would be quite the power boost. I want more pitchers, especially LHPs, too.

Do we think Dardar can stay healthy?

I think he's coming into a program that will do everything they can to keep him healthy. We have a lot of resources here specifically for baseball. Prep, maintenance, recovery, etc.

We're not on him, but there's some great catchers in the portal this year. It's tough, because I think Arrambide can really be a guy, but we're certainly slow playing the position and counting on him taking a step and at least one of the recruits getting to campus.

I'd argue Cade and Schmidt's development this offseason will determine how far this team goes next year.

On an unrelated note, Jacob Misiorowski went 5 no hit innings with a 102 mph FB and 96 mph SL. Got pulled at 81 pitches because he rolled his ankle walking back to the mound after throwing a pitch.

Interesting post from Keltic Tiger on the portal thread on the Rant.

In one of his recent PC, CJJ was asked if he could discuss his portal signings. He laffed & said not now, paused, " but when I can you'll see how excited I am about this portal class."

Jay is such a tease.

It really wasn't like this. Koki Riley asked if he would talk about the current commits (Simpson and Dardar) and Jay said he was focused on this team right now but will be excited to talk about transfers when he's able to. The Rant loves to spin things into something its not.

Yeah I don't think it's like we have 3-4 secret portal commits or anything. He did say they had some people in on visits Monday I believe.

It would be great if we had some actual coverage of this stuff. Very grateful we have a few folks in this thread who apparently work as baseball detectives to find out information.

I know Jay said we’d be “very selective” but do you have a guess on what that means in terms of numbers of portal signings?

5-7 maybe? I feel like the number of pitchers inflates it a little.

This year seems a little different than previous years where you have a really good foundation but depending on what happens with the draft I can see portal additions being anywhere from as little to 5 or as many as 10-12. A lot of incoming freshman with 50/50 type probability to make it to campus.

On another note, I wonder if Briggs McKenzie being a North Carolina kid had a connection with Josh Jordan and if so what that would mean if he would end up getting the Duke job.

Yea that’s where I think it gets tricky. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle that. Hopefully we get through the draft in really good shape but of course a lot of those could go the other way.

Haven’t seen much buzz about the Duke job which makes me think that guy on Twitter who said he’d be stunned if it’s not was probably right.

I think he's already accepted the job. He's just more upstanding than Wes and isn't announcing it until the season is over.
