good question - team is just so stacked. Ton of potential in those two. Saw Hogg's BP the last two days and kid is super athletic and strong.

The only thing i can think of is that maybe Jay is saying frick red shirts. With the way the transfer portal works in baseball (and Jay has talked about this at length) you're not going to see many more Cade Beloso's or Gavin Dugas'. You'll either make an impact in 4 years or you'll be replaced by Tommy White, Paul Skenes, Luke Holman, Gage Jump, Chris Stanfield, Anthony Eyanson, Daniel Dickinson, etc.
I would guess getting some of those guys 10 AB a season earns more goodwill than redshirting them and having them sit all year?
Just looking at (non-medical) redshirts since Jay has taken over
2022
- Grant Fontenot. Left after '22 season. Seems like this was more a of a discipline issue from what I've heard.
2023
- Nic Bronzini. Left after '24 season. Don't think he's a guy that will ever be LSU level. Didn't realize he was as highly ranked as he was.
- Zeb Ruddell. Left after '24 season.
2024
- Austen Roellig. Left after '24 season.
- Derrick Mitchell. Left after '24 season.
So, since Jay has gotten here, he's had 5 guys redshirt. 3 of them left immediately after that season, and the other two were passed up and left the following year. That doesn't account for a couple of other guys in the '24 class who left the program before the season like Griffin Cooley and Dallas Dale.
I guess redshirting in baseball is pretty much worthless for a program like LSU with the way we can attract the Dickinson's and Eyanson's of the world, not to mention the top end guys like Skenes and White. Let the boys play and see what they want to do.

Between not knowing who will be drafted, what talent at what position and who will sign in the portal it's easy and safer to over commit with high school. If you are over roster limit you give the high school kid an opportunity to redshirt or he plays somewhere else. It's not a good system but it is what it is. Having the draft finished before portal season would make it more manageable

Once you play that counts as a year.
I have a feeling some player will challenge that soon.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter because the really good players aren't staying four years

Dallas Dale isn’t on the roster at USF. I don’t think he’s playing anywhere.
Trenton Lape is at Chipola and doing pretty good.
Griffin Cooley is at LSUE but isn’t starting consistently.
Trevor Schmidt is back at Fullerton College. I haven’t checked in a bit, but he was feast or famine there last time I looked.

Omar Serna...Go look at his videos
Just watched highlights of him against Barbe. I’m only in the bottom of the 3rd but he has an opposite field bomb and threw a guy out trying to steal 2nd. He looks like a man amongst boys

Cooper Smith, Live Oak catcher headed to Louisiana Tech hit 3 home runs against Barbe. Saw highlights from that game on youtube. Live Oak beat them 13-1

omar did it against a much better pitcher though
Cooper is a bad arse though no doubt.

Ruddell's the only one who really surprises me off that list. I expect him to be an all-conference type player. It's early so small sample size.
Not surprised Kling is flourishing. I think it was always a pressure thing for him here.

Thanks for the weekly updates. Nice to see in one place so I don't have to go looking for all of them.
