it’s seems like he never developed elite power but has insane speed and is a good contact hitter with some pop.

but that’s what i’m rgathering from cursory reading. i haven’t scouted him or anything.

And he’s a humble kid from a great family. Not a prima donna.

Curiel entered the summer showcase circuit looking like he might continue that line, and while he showed off some skills and played for Team USA, scouts didn’t think he had the kind of summer performance they expected from him, and he continued to get mixed results from evaluators this spring. Tools-wise, Curiel has a package that reminds some of a Pete Crow-Armstrong or a Michael A. Taylor. A left-handed hitter, Curiel’s bat-to-ball skills are excellent, and he rarely strikes out. But while there is some gap power in there, it’s been softer contact than some hoped to see at this point. He hasn’t gotten much stronger or grown from when he first arrived on the high school scene and he’s yet to show he can add strength to his narrow frame or have impact at the plate.

While Curiel is now mostly an average runner, he does have outstanding instincts that will let him play center field for a long time. That with his knack for finding the barrel gives him a pretty decent floor as a big leaguer, and there are some who think he might go on to LSU and come out as a high floor college hitter.

There might be some prospect fatigue here as Curiel has been “famous” for a while, with the industry reminding itself that it took a player like Taylor a long time to fully develop.

I mean put his name in twitter. You can see his many talents on display.

There is video of him hitting HRs out of a MLB park in BP. His pop will play in some of these SEC parks for sure.

Looks like a really good OF, and is a CF that actually has a decent arm.

Yeah he does have a lot of highlights throwing runners out. I don’t mind his frame actually, could definitely add a few pounds with a college weight and food program. He may have dropped just enough to make it to BR, I think it’s a better risk for a position guy than a pitcher.

I wasn't quite sure because of the camera angle, but he looked to be flashing either an elite changeup or a good curveball tonight.

I don't think it was his normal breaking stuff because he tends to throw more of a sweeper than what he displayed tonight.

He went to a pitching lab as soon as the season ended to start developing a changeup. Saw a thread on twitter with videos about it in detail.

Seemed like his FB velocity was down a tick in his start tonight sitting between 8& and 90.

Probably taking it a little easier to stay fresh for the combine + hard to get amped for summer league games like that. I bet we see a 95 or a few 94’s from him at the combine…unfortunately
