Luke Hayden committed to us ETA: he’s rated about the same on BA’s draft top 500 as Dylan Tebrake was.
Feels like a leverage play for sure

does not provide him any leverage
Posted on 6/15/24 at 3:37 pm to Lester Earl
Is he a starter or bullpen guy?
Posted on 6/15/24 at 3:46 pm to saturncube21
He will be a 3 or top bullpen arm imo if he makes it. I do think he is the least likely of any transfers to make it to campus.

Jacob Mayers officially in the portal.
I missed the opportunity to make a joke about the over/under on tRant threads asking if we are getting Mayers. My initial O/U was 4, looks like we have 3 so far.

I think bullpen but you never know. He started 16G this past season for Indiana St.

Maybe a fall back, but not a leverage play. Not sure why people keep saying this.

I think Kilen and/or Diaz could be leadoff hitters. Kilen maybe moreso than Diaz, even though Diaz actually hit leadoff at Larry Bird U. Either could also slot over to 3B.
I believe those are the 2 targets, and you have to press both. If Bras comes back and you get both, you just have to figure it out. Load the boat.
I think Jay keeps pressing pitchers and all positions, loading the damn boat. Figure out who pitches when and how much later. Figure out who plays where and how much later.

I think you tell him he could maybe start for LSU. That's better than maybe starting for Indiana St or maybe starting for Mt St Mary's.

With the way coaches top load their lineups now it’s basically put your best bat in that leadoff spot to get him as many atbats as possible. Was the reason Tenner won last night with Moore getting 6 atbats. A 30 HR guy in the leadoff spot isn’t “normal” but if he’s sitting in that 3 or 4 hole he probably doesn’t get that atbat in the ninth. If Diaz ends up being our best hitter I think he’ll be in the leadoff.

Getting back to actual discussion.
I talked to someone today that was at a Rangers workout recently. Lots of kids there from JC, College and High School. Apparently Mac Rose killed it.
Whoever needs a C/1B but huge bat is gonna get a good one. Hopefully someone puts him in touch with our staff. McLennan is full of studs.

I think Brent Haring is about to get the Nicholls job.

I can’t blame him if it’s for a head coaching job anywhere
Can’t blame any assistants leaving for a head coaching job
I guarantee haring and Rooney were putting in some hours under Jay

quote:Jones took reps at 3B in the fall and spring (mostly in the fall when White was out). Would he be a viable option at 3B? Jay has that history of playing big bats there to improve draft stock and get Berry and White to come to LSU.
Jay said himself that "I told Tommy White, that I don't care if he has 50 errors, he will play 3B", or something along those lines. He also promised a starting role to Herring if he returns.
I don't know if it would be a serious consideration, but would be a potential way to get a power bat in at 3B and let Hernandez/Frey/Schmidt battle for 1B/DH to get more power at the corners.

If it meant having Jared Jones in the middle of the lineup next year, I’d guarantee him every game at 3rd.

New name to monitor:
DH/OF Todd Hudson, Liberty
Soph season: .286/.383.597, .981 OPS, 11 HR, 47 K, 21 BB

If Jones comes back it’ll be as the every day first baseman, since that’s where he projects at the next level and he only really needs to prove himself as a defender there at this point. More likely Frey makes that switch to third or a transfer bat imo

When does portal close?
July 1?
July 1?

Jones could probably play 3B but I think we will have better options there. The truth is our infield has a lot of players. Bringing more players through the portal, like Kilen, would crowd it even more. We will have more infielders than outfielders on our roster in 2025. However, a lot of these infielders could play OF if the need arrises.

It's open for 45 days. I can't remember of the top of my head when it started.
