If I'm any top assistant right now I wait and see what happens at Miss St and Ole miss next year
those will be two plum jobs if they open up and without a turnaround Bianco is likely out and without a deep tourney run Lemonis could be as well

I don’t think a coach without head coaching experience is getting either of those jobs.

Probably not but it could open up another job where a top assistant might get a chance

Doing a little summer ball looking and a few things caught my attention.
1. Tanner Reaves his starting his summer hot at the plate although all 7 of his hits are singles. He is hitting .467 in his first 4 games. He played 2 games at 2B and 2 games at 3B. 4BB/3K in those 4 games which is very nice to see.
2. Kucherak has a homer and is starting his first 4 games with a .250 avg. Played 2 games at 2B and 2 games at SS.
3. Trevor Schmidt having a pretty tough go to start his summer.
This is all Northwoods league stuff. Cape Cod league starts on Saturday. Marshalls league with little Pearson and Mikey Ryan starts today and so does the California Collegiate league which Nic Bronzini is playing in.

Also visitors are supposed to be in Baton Rouge this weekend based on what some radio guy that will not be named said this morning. Supposedly a big weekend for Jay and LSU. So take that for what it’s worth.

He's only played OF at Houston and 1B in very limited summer ball outings. But I think 3B would be the selling point for him.
Zach Arnold and Drew Bianco for a player to be named later. Sounds good to me.

Am I the only one that thought Arnold was going to be the next big thing at LSU? Really felt like he was gonna be a star.

Ace Reese from Houston is on LSU radar.
So is Logan Simmons from Weatherford.
Some McLennan kids also.

I like Kucherak. I feel like Jay really wanted to get him more involved this year but it didn't work out with Milam and Braswell stepping up.

Yep I thought he had potential. It’s crazy to think back on it now…Arnold and Zack Mathis were only allowed to transfer over because their coaches were fired or stepped down, if I recall.
Speaking of random Mainieri-era guys, I thought Nick Coomes was going to be a beast. Same with Jordan Romero and Saul Garza.

quote:Thought he was going to be a stud. Feel like he was much better than his numbers indicated. Almost like a Chris Reid with some power.
Zack Mathis
quote:Was great for about 20 games in 2016.
Jordan Romero
quote:Feel like we were cheated out of seeing him shine. Came on late in '19 and was a pivotal piece to that team. Then in '20 he only had 14 games but finally showed some power. Just dealt with injuries and a shitty roster during his time here. If he was on the 2023/2024 roster, with the talent around him, superior hitting coaches, and hot bats/balls, I think he could've been a 20 homer guy.
Saul Garza.

Mac Rose?

I’m not sure about Mac. I wish. Kid is a stud.

I’m sure he could. One of the biggest reasons I like to follow offseason baseball is to pay attention to the positions players are playing. Jay has pull when these kids go to their summer league on certain positions he wants them to get work at. So far Kicherak has only played SS and 2B but it’s only 4 games in.
