I'll post this here because it'll get more intellectual responses.
What's everyone's thoughts with the Travinski/Milazzo/Neal logjam at what I assume will be 2 positions C/DH?
Things we know
-Milazzo will catch a ton because of his defense
-Neal will hit a ton because of his left handed bat
-Travinski will hit a ton because of his power
These are arguably 3 of LSU's top 9 position players but there doesn't seem to be a perfect solution to get all three in at the same time unless they try out Travinski at 1B. It's a great problem to have and there will be plenty of playing time to go around.

It has a way of working itself out
Travinski didn't play regularly until end of April and still put up 10 homeruns
You have to remember Beloso and Dugas were not everyday players until injuries hit and Kling/Jones played a lot until they hit that wall in sec play

They have tried Travinski at 1B and also tried Neal at 2B a little bit.
I would not expect to see all 3 in the lineup at once. That puts you in a bind with a backup catcher and lineup changes late in the game if you have a spot that you want to PH for Milazzo. Milazzo C/Travinski DH will likely be what you see most games this season. If Brown takes an OF spot and Pearson can handle 2B that will help getting the LH bats in the lineup in there. Maybe with a RHP Neal/Travinski is the choice. We will see how it seems to play out.
Travinski will have to be in the lineup everyday for this team to be successful this season IMO. He will have to produce enough to be able to protect Tommy White.

As much as Jay likes Jake Brown he still has to prove he can handle SEC pitching

And when this is the case and he’s not catching you end up with one left handed bat in the lineup (we can’t count on Brown as an everyday bat just yet)

Isn't Neal's back issue similar or the same as what Hurd came in with? If so, I believe it's something that they will always have to work around. They had to re-construct alot of Hurd's delivery to keep from aggravating it. I assume that Neal has had to make alot of adjustments, too. Unfortunately, playing catcher, you really don't have the luxury of repeating the same movement over and over. Hurd was actually a high school catcher - a really good one. Just makes you wonder what Neal's future holds.

It's such a tough position and all three have had their share of injuries. A rotation seems a good way of keeping them all healthy.
At this juncture I don't think Jay really wants Travinski at 1B. He can play there but he does have the occasional drop. I think Jones has passed Travinski defensively both at 1B and catcher.
Travinski will catch some and play a lot of DH. I agree that Travinski needs to be in the everyday lineup somewhere.
I think you will see Milazzo start two weekend games with Neal starting the other. Of course, I thought Jay would mix it up last year and he did not. It was Neal all weekend. That could have been an attempt to get him the most possible bats before SEC or he was simply the best catcher on the team. Perhaps that contributed to Neal's back injury but I'm no Doctor.
I'm just really glad we have depth at that position. It really is a blessing. Leadership, talent and experience at a crucial position. It's going to be big part of the team in 2024.

They are all practically polar opposites, which gives Jay alot of flexibility.
Milazzo is the clear defensive guy. He has certainly improved at the plate, but Travinski is the offensive guy. Neal is probably right square in the middle on offense and defense, with a bigger offensive upside than Milazzo and he hits LH, better defensively than Travinski. I will add this - I think Travinski has improved defensively behind the plate. Neal's usage may primarily be to get a LH bat in the lineup against RH pitching (i.e. a much more limited role than he had last season) - he could probably use a full year of spot work to get his back right.
I hope we get Arrambide in next season. He's ridiculous.

Just listening how Jay operates, any player that falls out of the first round is better off coming to school. Doesn't always work that way but Jay is pretty convincing

I agree catcher will be a rotation and that all 3 will be needed over the course of the season.
Obviously, Travinski will be in the lineup every day in some form or fashion if healthy. I suspect Milazzo is your primary catcher and Travinski is your primary DH the majority of the season.

This is kind of how I see it. Milazzo getting around 50% of the innings behind the plate. Neal
getting about 40%. Travinski/Jones/Frey splitting the other 10%.
With Neal's health and losing Milazzo and Travinski, I don't think they completely abandon Jones and Frey behind the plate. Priester will come in and play. Arrambide is a draft risk. The portal is always iffy on catchers.
They're going to want to make sure there is stability there.

That is a big question. Maybe he just eventually takes innings away from Milazzo behind the plate.
Pearson seems to be the front runner for 2nd.
