Moss' commitment gives us 11 guys in Baseball America's top 100 HS draft rankings.
ETA: Moss' brother is a highly rated catcher in the 2026 class and is committed to Stanford.

Damn this thread is uplifting. I'm not that knowledgeable but am that thankful for the savvy contributions from the regulars.

Is that good?

It’s incredible what he’s doing with recruiting, but does it seem like there’s not as many Louisiana guys in his last 2 classes. Just seems a little out of state heavy. I am not complaining at all, but those Louisiana kids are usually the glue to these teams. Hope he’s getting enough of them.

Jay said he was going after the best. He's doing just that.

I agree with you on the glue thing. There is just an X factor that Louisiana kids playing for LSU bring.
We're grabbing the very best in state, but I think we're going to see some supplementing the in-state numbers with JUCO transfers. Guys from Louisiana with high upside that went JUCO rather than D1 for whatever reason.
Daniel Harden at McLennan is a 2023 that could be a guy we recruit in the future.

I agree
It just seems very west coast heavy.
That’s fine, but having Louisiana kids should also have some priority.
I think he’s doing a tremendous job. It would just be nice to have a little more in state talent coming in. I truly believe that matters. They don’t win the championship without it last year.

Thanks Pat.
That makes sense.

All depends on the talent LA is producing and are we getting that top talent, if so, some year w emight only have 2-3 LA kids in the class because thats all worth taking. Other years might be deeper and see more like 4-5 LA kids in a class.
For example in the 2022 class the Top 3 players in the state were Guidry, Frey, Ruddell and we got all 3 of them. They were all ranked Top 300 in PG. After that it was a drop off to #439 overall, which happened to be Luke Hill and a bit of bummer we missed on him, but I'd say we got the top LA talent we went after.
2023 we got Brown, Anderson & Lape. Top 150 overall players and Top 3 in the state. Next down was Walsh at #374 overall as a RHP but we got 2 much higher ranked RHP in Lape and Seo so dont see an issue there.
For 2024 we got the Top 3 players in the state again, all Top 100 overall in PG in Schmidt, Victorian and Ryan. #4 player in state is Federico who is #141 in the class and a MIF so we might regret not taking him, but next down from him is #250 overall John Pearson, a commit, and then #405 Grant Breaux who is also a commit. So that's 5/6 state's top players there. I'd say 5 is a really healthy number of in-state kids. In the 2024 class Breaux is the lowest ranked commit too.
Jay is still recruiting the state hard just being more selective than Mainieri ever was. Mainieri routinely had sub 500 ranked in-state players here. And yes some worked out well, but many were just a bit over their head here as well like Josh Stevenson (I realize he was a bit of a legacy), Will Hellmers, Will Safford, Collier Cranford, Mitchell Sanford...etc. I know we hope a lot of those guys turn out like Cade Beloso but many dont , and keep in mind Beloso had quite the roller coaster of a career here before becoming a surprise 5th year starter.

Federico is a little bit different case too. He's essentially from Mississippi.

Well there you have it, we essentially got the Top 5 true LA kids in the state in 2024 class

I've watched alot of high school baseball over the last few seasons. The talent just hasn't been that deep in LA. That's not to say that the state is bad, but you see 1 or 2 kids stand out and the rest are essentially the exact same player. The talent is just kind of balanced and not much at the high D1 level.

Thanks
Great analysis. I feel much better about it after reading that. The future seems extremely promising.

yep right now, Louisiana is producing tons of D1 talent....its just that there are only 5-6 that are high d1 talent. the rest are mainly mid major types or fringe top 25 program types
in the past those types could play under Paul, but now they need more work to be able to transfer in and play under Jay because he is bringing in beast from all over the country.
the kid from WM that is going ole miss....im sure we would have liked to have. Im sure we would have wanted courville out of barbe that is going to A&M. But we havent missed on many.
i do think passing on Donovan LaSalle will end up being a mistake mainly because of his outlook and work ethic and huge upside once he gains weight but he is in a great spot at ok state.
but players like JC Vaneck and even owen galt this year...they would have been here under paul but Jay is bringing in the best of the best no matter where they are from...i like it alot.

No one is disputing how valuable players like Beloso and Dugas were to last year's team but even Jay has said it, you are not getting to Omaha and winning in Omaha without Skenes, Crews and White.
With the transfer portal teams can now build all star rosters and to keep up you need the best talent you can assemble at the expense of a fringe LA prospect who may take longer to develop.

It's not really a surprise that you have terrible fricking takes here and completely miss the point of everything.
Beloso and Dugas were not fringe prospects when they were recruited and signed by LSU. They were both top ten in the state and Dugas had draft buzz out of high school.
