I agree with that. That is exactly what I said in the post you replied too. I was mostly saying that to say that catching a midweek game each week won't really move the needle for MLB scouts.
I also agree with WJP, if thats what it takes to get him back then you absolutely do it. If he shows he is a liability back there then you will need to put him back at 1B.

If he comes back to catch, I think he catches 3 games a week. 1 midweek, 2 weekend, DH or 1B the other game. I don't necessarily believe catching a midweek vs. an SEC/weekend game matters (the opposition shouldn't really change how he plays the position) but I do agree that 1 or 2 games each week won't move the needle. He would need to be the primary starting catcher. With only 1 season, he'll need every rep on film he can get.

I don’t think y’all realize how hard it is to catch. Y’all can wish anything into existence.

And you’re ignoring the fact that he’s trained and practiced at catcher to some effect both years he’s been here. Of course it’s difficult, that’s why if he proves he can do it his stock goes up. You sell him the opportunity to prove himself, if he can’t put him at first and he makes similar money to what he would’ve this draft. If he does, you have a great catcher and he makes more money in next year’s draft.

Not sure. They were caught by surprise

Another thing to keep in mind is that if he catches that much, and thats a big if, how will that effect his ability to hit. It is a completely different animal when catching that many games with your body and not doing it for 2 years would have me assume his body isn't used to doing it. So it could hurt his production at the plate to catch that much and have his body fatigued.
For example, Adley Rutschman is one of the best. I saw a graphic that this season he is hitting .260-.280ish when he catches games and more around .350-.370 when he DHs. I don't think that is a coincidence.

That’s true, he likely sees a production dip at the plate if he plays catcher. This is all just to try anything to get his bat back in Baton Rouge next season though. If giving him a shot behind the plate does it then I think it’s worth it.

Not when you're also trying to get Neal in the lineup and you also have two senior catchers on the bench. Neal started all but 3 midweek games before his back injury sidelined him the rest of the season. Those midweek games were pretty much the only playing time Milazzo or Travinski had up to that point.

I have seen Jones catch some in the fall as a freshman and he wasn't a liability. He has his limits for sure but it wouldn't surprise me if he was serviceable back there.

his splits are absolutely insane
thisnyear he is hitting .238/.307/.365 with 7 HR in 54 games as a catcher
He is hitting
.384/.420/.652 with 8 HR in 27 games as a DH.
It was relatively level last year but man he may be in for a position change. he’s a great catcher but damn those DH numbers are fricking bananas

Training is fine. But like TBird said accurately; game reps matter. Practice is practice. Alex milazzo plays 3B in fall scrimmages. It doesn’t mean he can play 3B in a game

Yea, Rutchsman is gonna get Joe Mauer’d sooner than later

Aggy using that 3m buyout on players it seems. Looks like they have the pieces to make something happen so the choke job will only be that much more glorious

They won't be able to play everyone if Henseler stays committed and they plan on adding Arquette and or Clayton from Washington.
Hopefully Jay can sell Henseler on full time 3B and Dickinson on SS. Otherwise one of the 2 above may need to be the fallback plan.

I mean they were probably going to be a preseason top 3 team before Schloss left.

Nick Groves from Niagara has committed to Illinois.

I'm surprised we haven't been able to get a commit from any of the top SS or 3B in the portal. Seems like the easiest sell ever.
