Baseball America updated their top 200 draft rankings. LSU recruits on the list are below.

23. Black Mitchell
94. Cameron Johnson
144. Steven “Monster” Milam
170. Jake Brown
184. Ashton Larson

Anderson with a pretty precipitous drop with TJ.

Cam Johnson and Blake Mitchell are both lower than I would have thought.

The 2020 Draft really screwed the HS prospects in this years draft class.

It's what the owners want though. It will have long lasting effects that will benefit college baseball but the ultimate outcome the owners were looking for is for players to hit free agency at an older age so they could use their age against them to pay them less. It's a long term play, it was absolutely part of the thinking of shrinking the draft and the minor leagues pushing more guys to college.

It works doubly to outsource years of development as well. So they win now and win later.

Even though it will benefit college baseball, it will not benefit baseball as whole to have shuttered so many minor league teams. I could go on for days about this but this current group of owners seem hellbent on extracting every last bit of value they can from the teams they own sacrificing the fan base and future of the sport in the process. It's as if they are okay with presiding over the collapse of the sport.

Selfishly, I hope they all drop like a rock so we have a better chance to get these guys to campus!

You would think the big market teams would get tired of the Rays competing with a quarter of the payroll. In general non pitchers’ peak age for performance is around 26 which is two or three years before free agency. Lowering the service time from 6 to 5 would do the sport wonders. They should also lower the time requirement for what’s considered a service year. Delayed call ups for future stars is just wrong. And the owners wonder why fan attendance is down. Meanwhile college baseball becomes more popular every year.

i disagree, with the emergence of places like driveline, CSP, ATP, Florida Armory, Texas Baseball Ranch. TopV etc, etc...those low level minor league teams are just a drain on resources.

A) you are using college baseball as the main developer for the non top tier talent

B) you see the college guys play against much better comp than in hs

C) provides the younger guys who need development much more time to do so and provides much better lifestyle.

things will adjust and be better imo in the long run. Same way you have these post grad 1 year academies opening up. the market will dictate.

Those things are a great supplement. My argument to the drain on resources is that a) not every team agrees (at least the player dev people in the org) and b) it's at least a drain on the guys that can most afford it.

But really, I'm coming more from the overall health of the game than just the player dev side (though there would be a ton of player dev benefits to reinstate one level of short season ball). They've removed affiliated baseball from several places that are nowhere near MLB teams. It's been replaced by collegiate summer leagues and indy ball which are far less stable.

If there were more investment/interest in independent baseball it would take some of the sting out of removing the short season leagues. What's ultimately being lost is generations of future scouts, coaches, grassroots baseball people, and fans that the minor leagues produces that add to the health of the game in all aspects.

ETA: I also think MLB absorbing some level of control over most of the indy leagues is bad for baseball long term as well. I'd like to see some of the labs like Driveline and P3 etc get more involved on the indy side and maybe field their own teams.

If he fell to 3rd round range, I dont know if I'm Cam Johnson but I start to like the look of going to LSU with Wes Johnson as a 6'5 power lefty, no lefty starters probably to compete with (except the guys in his class probably) and a couple weekend starter spots opening up (Skenes, Floyd).

94th pick in 2022 draft had a $650k slot value, I would imagine he would want way more than that to sign.

Hard to imagine a guy throwing upper 90s from the left side not commanding a huge premium though.

disagree here. I just think in general MLB has done a terrible terrible job of development in the past. getting much better last 3 years but many of the lower tier orgs still are the same way. you either are ready or better figure it out on your own...and then they wonder why they in the bottom 1/3rd of the league every year.

There is a giant JUCO tournament going on in Florida this weekend and Perfect Game is showing some of it on their website. The first game is going to be Cale Lansville pitching for San Jac against Carson Dorsey (a guy we recruited but got drafted and also committed to FSU) for Gulf Coast State.

San Jac also has a catcher we're looking at, Jake Bennett. They have some other pitchers we're looking at too and generally their talent level is high.

Gulf Coast is pretty loaded as well. Some really good pitchers. But they have an outfielder that's originally from Guam named Ethan Lizama that's an exciting player. We're not looking at him, but it's still cool to see a player from Guam.

ETA: That game starts at 10am central.

Lansville is getting touched up in his second inning of work. Delgado is also currently playing in this same tournament but their game isn't being broadcast from what I can tell. I can't even find live stats for it. Delgado is playing against Meridian and former LSU catcher Blaise Priester.

There may be more games streaming than I realized, but only certain ones have the PG guys hosting. Here is the overall schedule. It's a loaded tournament.
