And in my opinion the only one I know of that makes sense. He is damn near ready to play the outfield or be a pinch runner, situational guy already. Some of these kids are studs, but they are just hard to project. Jordin is an easily prediction IMO. Unless he loses interest in the game, he will be a fine addition.

At 8 he hit a ball to our right fielder or over his head. By he damn time the ball hit the ground he was already on second. He crossed home before the ball got back to the dirt.

And on 60/90 this last year he hit a routine ball to a good second baseman who sat back on it and took an extra hop on turf because it was routine, he was called out on a bang bang play. But he was safe. He is going max speed about 2 steps out of the box.

From the press conference, while not mentioned by name, Jay said he talked to Fidel Ulloa today and he's getting the start for SJDC.

Jordin??

Right now he is #25 overall, #6 outfielder

But he is in 8th grade so really hard to say yet

The bat speed and 60 times are off the charts, really strong arm, but he has to improve defense still but the dude is 14 and not even in hs yet

He isn’t going to be a huge kid, but his dad is a strength coach and he lifts hard so he will come in very strong and prepared

But in the end their is no way to tell. Comes from a great family but with 5 years to go still….a lot can happen

As you saw this past year, lots of kids would rather go to college then live the minor league life

I can't even believe I'm reading a scouting report this detailed and talking about the signability of a kid who has not reached high school yet. Not criticizing. Just hard to believe.

I found a few tidbits on a top 50 HS list. I will edit around what is already covered on page 1 of this thread the best I can.

6. Blake Mitchell - He has more upside as a catcher where he has a 2.05 pop time and plenty of athleticism behind the dish suggesting he could be an above average defender. Currently he goes the other way too much despite his hips clearing well and having real plus raw power to his pull side.

19. Cameron Johnson - The breaking ball is the big questions at this point as it looks a lot like a slider in shape with two plane movement and some late tilt, but it isn’t sharp nor is it big currently and is best described as slurvy. I have seen it down to 75 and up 82, so it really is stuck between a slider and curve, either making them two distinct pitches or choosing one version and perfecting it will be needed to put Johnson over the top as a future rotation piece

48. Steven Milan - although power will never be a big part of his game. He has all the defensive chops to stick at short, but the arm is fringy there and a move to second is most likely in his future. If he does move to the keystone spot, he could be a plus defender with decent range and incredibly soft hands.

Trying to predict who will make it to campus this early is an exercise in futility, but..... Milan's lack of power potential in the bat and arm will probably play in our favor come draft day. None of our other commitments made the top 50 HS list and that might also bode well for us. Although I have seen that change quickly and drastically as for a players rankings.

If I had to make a crystal ball prediction, I don't see us landing as many studs in the 2023 class as we did in the 2022 class. However some stud Lefties and infielders would go a long way in covering our needs and we have a good shot at that.

I'm also thinking we will be able to cherry pick in the portal next year. I'm seeing around 11 draft eligible pitchers on our current team. Some will probably stick around and you will have HS pitchers filling some voids but I think it will be priority number one in the portal. We will lose a few position players but the portal will probably be SS or big bats.

Agree. It’s somewhat comical that we are discussing if an 8th grader is going to “make it to campus” when he has not made it to a HS campus yet.

Yeah getting Kade Anderson and Jake Brown to campus would be big wins. I like Lape and Milam a lot as well. I’m putting Blake Mitchell and Cam Johnson in my gone category but those are the only two. Not a star studded class but lots of solid and high ceiling players which works out because we’ll be starting a ton of sophomores next year (Neal, Jones, Kling, Guidry, etc) so those guys will have time to develop.

I think we'll need to get some experience out of the portal next year. We lose almost all of our experience. The roster will still be packed with talent, and the pitching staff should still be in great shape, but I think we'll need 2-3 proven, experienced position players to come in to glue it all together. I think this is also why you'll see Jay play the young guys alot this year...they have to make the jump quickly for next year.

Agree 100% but it’s where it’s gone for the top 50-75 prospects.

Jordin I a little different though because he isn’t relying on just being the biggest kid, because he isn’t. Also he has been playing summer ball with hs teams since he was 12 and traveling the country playing the best competition he could since he was 9.

But yea crazy kids are committing and having offers in 7th and 8th grade. But was have talked about him on here since he was 12, kind of like the llws kids, the top current freshman and sophomores.

In his first outing of the year, Fidel Ulloa went 2 innings with 4 strikeouts. He gave up a single and one guy reached on an error. No walks. Pretty efficient facing 8 batters. I’m guessing they will stretch him out as the season goes on. He’s one of like 5 pitchers on his team committed to D1 schools.

I don't recall seeing this video posted in the thread or on the board. It's from a few months ago with coach J talking about the 23 signees. I just happened upon it today.

When you have a chance, give me the Catholic League recruits. I know we've gone over this before, but I need a refresher heading into this season. I follow alot of the Catholic League but I've had to follow more 8u and 9u recently. I'll also have some eyes on 8th grade baseball this year.

ETA: I guess really any in state recruits.

I lean to No but you really never know. He has a national profile already, and thr 2022 draft is fresh in my head with guys like Termarr Johnson, Cam Collier & Justin Crawford all getting big bonuses out of HS. Left handed, ++ hit tool, + speed. He kinda has that profile

Tulane has a bunch of kids signed in the Catholic league. Arencibia 24’ & Burg 25’ from Rummel. Jesuit’s C, 23’. The Robinson kid from Aug, I think he is a 25. And holy cross’s Freshman SS, last name Pellegrin.

John Curtis has O’Brien to Miss St & Ackel to New Mexico as a 2 sport guy. The C, Eames, is going to Delgado but I suspect he will sign to a decent college out of Delgado. He’s really good. 26’ Nate Alario prob their best young player. But they have a few Curtis boys coming up the pipeline.

However The best player in the league tho is probably Michael Ryan, Rummel’s Jr shortstop committed to lsu.

I'm familiar with all of those kids. Thanks for the refresher.

Gavin Nix is a name at Rummel, too. I like the Eli Booth kid at BM, and BM also has the LLWS kids (Darrah, Roussel, and Prather) and a few other mid-level upper class prospects. Curtis' QB, Bruno, projects.

After the first weekend of JUCO action, the only name that's emerged so far is C/OF Jake Bennett from San Jac.
