I think in Truman Capote's last year of coaching he had 1 or no LHP on the team. How the frick does that happen?

We may have gotten a commitment last night that hasn't been publicly announced yet. It would be an in state kid most likely. I'm digging around right now, but if anyone sees anything, post it.

We did get a commit. Our second 2027 commit. Devyn Downs from Sterlington. Infielder and pitcher.

That’s why I laugh when people say…don’t get your kids lessons when talking about 9/10/11. I mean we are actively recruiting 7th and 8th graders

Yeah, I'm not big on recruiting this young.
One of the side effects of this is that you see a bunch of kids in the summer going into their senior year, or even as far down as the early signing day, "decommitting" and looking for a new landing spot.
It also leads to a flood of guys on the market when there is a coaching change. Baylor's 2023 and 2024 classes got ravaged when they turned over their staff. They aren't the only ones, I just remember us and Tennessee both grabbing guys from their classes. But when you're getting commits 4 and 5 years out, it just leads to weird outcomes.

i dont mind them recruiting but i dont think scholarships should be able to be offered or verbal commits given until after soph year.
agree with everything you said.
i was just playing the flip side cause a dad asked this week on the OT who asked about lessons for his 9 year old son
and all the old guys came in talking about....he is 9...let him be a kid and other bullshite and then of course DR players came up. its just funny those guys do that, yet cheer on commits from guys like this who are 8th graders.
same with the talking about how bad travel ball is....yet, where the hell do you think Jay found this kid

It's well documented that I was way against it, but have become a little more open to it as I've learned the projection side of the equation. I have a few kids that I've followed personally since 6 yrs old, and they're 8th graders in high school now...I'm very interested to see how my projections play out. And, I have some on both sides of the equation, ones that haven't really popped yet but I think will, and some that popped that I think have peaked. For the kids, I don't fully understand committing that early other than really just being able to focus on school and baseball and being a kid, without any added pressure of recruiting.

Hiro Wyatt, a guy some in this thread were tracking as a possible target, committed to USC tonight.

I didn't see where it was mentioned anywhere but Prospect Live came out with a 2023 Top 200 MLB Draft list. I know it is really early but it will give an idea on the recruits that are getting a lot of attention early even though we already have that idea.
Prospect Live 2023 MLB Draft Top 200 (Bold incoming recruits)
Dylan Crews - 2
Paul Skenes - 13
Blake Mitchell - 23
Tre Morgan - 35
Cameron Johnson - 83
Grant Taylor - 89
Christian Little - 92
Steven Milam - 135
Ty Floyd - 138
Blake Money - 155
MJ Seo - 173

Where is Cameron Johnson? Dude is a top 20 player on PG. Would be insane to get him on campus.
Also no Ashton Larson, #82 overall on PG.

Good catch. I knew it seemed I was missing someone. Ashton Larson is not on their top 200 list.

Former Tiger Jacob Hasty was at the bottom of the top 200 list

He's going to keep getting chances because his stuff jumps off the page with the analytics tools. If he ever dials in his command, he could play for a long time. That's the hardest thing to do though.
Posted on 10/28/22 at 12:01 pm to ProjectP2294
Why did Hasty transfer? Did he just want to become a starter somewhere and felt like that wouldnt be here?
