Thompson isn’t going anywhere. He will start somewhere in the middle of your infield next season.

You can't say that for sure if they land transfers and recruits. I'm for Thompson more than most and believe he will start the season in the lineup and is capable of being a really good player, but I can't say he definitely has a spot if they land these guys and Thompson struggles with the glove still in the fall and spring.

I think you can pencil in Crews, Thompson Morgan, Pearson, and Dugas if he stays. Thompson may play 2nd base but I think he has a spot.

I think he will also, but I'm not willing to say I'm as confident in that as I am Crews and Morgan.
They are the only 2 good enough not to get their spot taken. Pearson is close to that level I think also. The rest I think can have their spots taken by someone.

Pearson is a lock to be in the lineup. There is not a question about that

I think so too. I don't really see a sophomore slump type of deal with him. The kid can flat out hit the baseball.

If he hits in front of Crews he'll be good

Paul Gervase was activated by the Brewster Whitecaps today.

Can definitely see a lineup with Pearson and Crews hitting 1 and 2.

We saw it most of this year. Not a stretch

Yea, that wasn't meant to be a bold prediction type of comment.

I don’t understand the slander Thompson gets. Bama weekend he changed his approach at the plate and started taking balls to opposite field. He got hot with the bat beginning then and gained confidence. Once he did that his fielding drastically improved. He played a good SS the last 5 weeks of the season.
I stand by my prediction that I made in 2021 season; he will leave LSU an all sec SS.

He thrived from the standpoint of using Jay's plate discipline approach. Strikeout numbers dropped, walk numbers went up. More doubles, more RBIs. He's a fine bat. To be a really good bat, he'll have to take another step...and I think he could.
He's a poor fielder. He was kinda poor as a freshman and he was very poor this year. He's always had stretches that were very impressive, but he is what he is. Unlike the bat, which I think can continue its upward trajectory, I don't think the glove is going to make considerable improvement. I hope I'm wrong, but Jay's not wrong to look for another middle infielder or 2.
Where the tradeoff line is for his hitting and poor defense, I don't know. We didn't really have any good tradeoffs this year.

If he works on defense a lot and gets consistent, I can see a 10 error season with him hitting .300+ with 8-10 homers next season. Then everyone will love him.
This is a comment I made in another thread. I think most people see the potential in Thompson. The thing we haven't seen yet is defensive consistency. That is the biggest question moving forward. Can he improve defensively. The bat is good enough and showing improvement. That isn't the issue.
As far as leaving LSU an all SEC SS, that will be tough considering he will be draft eligible next season and if he does well enough he will probably go in the draft based on potential. Jacob Gonzales will be back at Ole Miss next season and will be your all SEC SS. Maybe Thompson can show consistency and improve enough to be the 2nd team all SEC SS.

I'm with bay tiger on this. He could lose his SS position for his glove. He could lose 2B and 3B to a bigger bat. He is not a gaurantee. I personally think he will have a great year but we will need to see it first.
Johnson obviously sees something in Pearson's bat that my untrained eye is not sharp enough to see but I agree with Lester, he will be in the lineup. He seems to have some natural talents that can't be taught and most hitters don't possess
There will be a lot of competition next year and I think that will ge a good sign Johnson is improving the talent level on this team.
That is just position players. Pitching might be more up for grabs then position players. We really don't have any idea how that will work out.

Does anybody know the deadline for portal players to choose a destination to be eligible for next year’s baseball season?
Posted on 6/16/22 at 3:39 pm to beauchristopher
I would assume as long as they transfer and enroll at LSU before the spring semester starts. I'm sure Jay will want all his transfers he is interested in to be there for fall ball though so that would mean they would need to be enrolled before the fall semester.
Unless they have other rules I don't know about.

Thanks for the reply, but I once saw a specific date. I can’t seem to find it now. I believe there is a specific date for fall sports and then a specific date for spring sports. I will keep trying to google for it, but hopefully someone else may know.

I think they have until July 1st to enter the portal and be eligible to transfer but that doesn't mean they can't remain with their team, depending how the draft works out.

I think if Thompson isn't playing SS, he'll be at 3B. He was just fine at 3B last year to start the season and I think we'll have more options at 2B than we will at 3B.
