fantastic interview

Brody Drost is no longer scheduled for the Cape Cod league. He's on the roster of the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs in the Florida Collegiate League.
He's currently in the transfer portal but has not chosen a destination.

Was curious how Drost was announced for a Cape Cod team so early after basically not playing all season. I would expect to see him stick in the portal after basically not being in the Top 6/7 for the OF this season and possibly return so much there.

Kelly is a great interview.
This staff will continue to do well on the trail, as constituted.

Another coaching change that could have some impact is Clemson. Maybe ACC player of the year Max Wagner needs a fresh start...we happen to need a third baseman next season.
edit: bummer I just found out he's draft eligible and a projected round 1 guy. Nothing to see here.

Listened to it today, great interview. It’s easy to see why Kelly and Johnson are good recruiters. They seem to always promote that the goal is to develop, win a lot of games, and ultimately enhance your pro prospects. Both seem like player’s coaches (overused term I know) that aren’t sticks in the mud and willing to change with the times.

Clemson has the #14 catcher, Cooper Ingle
Arizona State has the #27 catcher, Nate Baez

Mikie asked Kelly how many of the top 11 guys in our class does he expect to get to campus? He said he would be stoked to get five of them.

50% on top 100 kids would be amazing. Sucks they moved the draft back.

He also mentioned that right now nobody really has a good idea of that yet. The players did not get to the point in the process to tell teams what their number is. Seems like once they do that the coaching staff gets a better idea of who may get to college and who doesn't.
Basically said that some guys may thing they a 3mil guy and then when they tell certain teams that may be high on them they may say they only think he is a 1.5 kinda guy. Makes a really good player possibly pass up on the 1.5 thinking he is worth more.
Or a Crews situation where you tell teams not even to bother if they don't want to pay Xmil and when they all say nah then take your name out the draft completely.

He didn’t sound happy about it. I think everyone wants to get it over with.

It sucks with the portal situation now because it doesn't give much time to get to portal kids and get them enrolled before the fall semester starts. However, I think it is a great thing that it isn't going on while some of these college kids are playing. Keeps their main focus on playing their postseason college baseball.

Anything is possible. I could make an argument for every one of them to get on campus. Obviously that won't happen. I mentioned before that I'm guessing we lose 6.
We need catcher, SS and starting pitchers. I see Jones and Frey as bigger Travinski's. I'm not sure they are the answer at catcher. Neal would be a huge get, if not I think we go portal there.
Thompson has the tools to be outstanding but I'm not convinced he will ever be a vacuum at SS. Guidry, Romero or both would be really nice additions.
It's anybody guess as for who could be a SP but Kennedy would be my top guess.
Just getting Neal, Guidry, Romero and Kennedy would be outstanding. Kling is a bonus.
14 pitchers in this class, if you count Guidry. I like them all. Getting as many of them on campus, might be the biggest impact on 2023 and beyond. I'm thinking we lose 3 and will still be happy, anything less than that would be outstanding.

I bet he’s counting Jones as a top100 guy. I just can’t see us getting Neal. We almost always miss out on these highly rated catchers.

I don't think we get Neal either and I'm not sure how much Jones would impact 2023.
Realistically we could lose 8 of these guys pretty easily and it still would be a very good class. I'm being optimistic that we only lose 6. I would be super excited if we lose less than 6.

Not quite all of them but I get what you are trying to say. Crawford and Snelling are 2 that I don't think you can make an argument to get here at this point. Tucker Toman would likely be another one.
Justin Crawford, Tucker Toman, Mikey Romero, Brady Neal, Gavin Guidry, Paxton Kling, Robby Snelling, Jaden Noot, Chase Shores, Michael Kennedy, and Jacob Misiorowski are the 11 I think he was talking about. If you end up landing 4-5 of those that would be good. Land 6 or more and that will be top notch.

I thought only Crawford, Snelling, Shores, and maybe Toman were for sure gone out of these guys. Sounds like the staff is less confident than that.

It's more like the process to know where the kids stand hasn't really started yet because we're still 45+ days from the draft. In past years, those conversations would have been had. But the kids aren't getting the info from the pro side they need yet because the process has been pushed back.
His comment about getting half the top 100 guys being a great thing was more of general statement. I don't think he had specific guys in mind when making that statement.

Jackson Linn from Tulane is in the portal. He's not a local kid, he's from Boston. I don't think we need to add a portal outfielder, but he's going to be an in demand guy.
