Hes skyrocketed up the draft charts. I did not think he was going to be a draft casualty in January.

The first player I've seen announce that they're in the transfer portal is Texas RHP Carson McKinney. He redshirted this season rehabbing a broken foot. He's originally from the Birmingham area. I think we are looking at him.

Potential starter for next year if we land him. Broken foot shouldn’t keep him from summer league.

Another JUCO RHP to watch is Kris Bow from College of Southern Nevada. Johnson recruited him to Arizona previously but he stayed at CSN. He’s back on the staffs radar after looking good recently.

Get that Carson McKinney kid!!! We need 2 or 3 (I'm being greedy) 2 are doable, studs that can go a consistent 7 innings every game.

Can never have enough starting pitchers. I do think we have starting pitchers on staff they just need to develop a little bit. So getting more starting caliber pitchers will just add much needed depth for the next few years.

Of the potential portal guys I've found, two are redshirting due to injury but have long term starter potential (but neither have pitched an inning post high school so who knows), one is actually the Friday starter for his school. The only one publicly in the portal is the one from Texas though.

Of the (I think) 5 other JUCO targets, 2 (maybe 3) are starters. The others are relievers. One of them (Taiga Yamane) would be a back end of the bullpen guy. He's on a ton of team's radars right now. Would be interesting to have a Japanese born player on the team though.

Latest Baseball America rankings have Romero dropping into the 70s and Gavin Guidry into the 90s. Crawford still ranked inside Top 30.

It would be huge to get Guidry and Romero, though I'm still not ready to say we can expect it. I said previously we could get 1 or 2 of the three committed infielders but not all three. Toman is shooting up the boards so that still looks like it will bear out.

Getting both Guidry and Romero would be awesome!

Romero has been tweeting alot following the success at LSU this year. Really seems to me he might be inclined to come to school if the draft falls that way. If we get those two, and a few of the top arms we have committed, next year will be special (not that this year can't still be!).

I really think we are gonna land both Romero and Guidry.

With Doughty potentially leaving, I'd think Jay would look at juco and portal for another infielder even with Guidry and Romero on board. Gotta put a lot of pressure on Thompson to get it together this off season.

I’ve been looking at schools with coaching changes, the best one out there is still the first one identified, Keaschall from San Fran.

ETA: I think it’s too late on the juco front for a position player, I’m guessing we go exclusively portal for that.

Speaking of middle infielders, any word on how Conor Simon is doing? Wasn’t his TJ surgery in February of 2021?

I said last week something in my gut was telling me Romero and Guidry gets to campus. Still a ways away from feeling comfortable about it but I will keep up the high hopes of that happening.

The more players that keep showing out in college like Doughty is, the better it is for us to get Romero. Few college guys that can sneak into the first round may help move Romero down just enough. Especially if he is telling MLB teams he is on the fence about going to college if he isn't drafted first round.

Get both of them and I am comfortable with the IF even if we don't get any portal guys. Would give you Thompson, Merrifield, Simon, Romero, and Guidry to work with. I would think a transfer guy would be ideal to help but I don't think it will be terrible if we can't land anyone.

I'm starting to wonder how the sheer amount of injured college arms is going to affect bonuses. Like, will a bunch of those guys take less than slot and allow money to be spent elsewhere?

There are always guys willing to take below slot deals, but this year there are a ton of guys that may be forced into that.

Along with Kumar Rocker who could be a mid first round pick? He could slide? Going from a 6 million dollar signing bonus to less than 1 million potentially is crazy for what was supposed to be top overall pick a year ago.

Slot values for this year has over 1 mil going up to pick 68. Figure with the 1 mil slot value plus money get moved around like you are saying will be a big game being played like normal. Like you said though, many pitching injuries can make that game a little crazier this season.

I can see Romero passing up on less than 1.5 mil. I think Johnson can get him on campus if his value is offered in less than that. He is the type of player that can bet on himself like Bregman and Crews did. Pass up on 1.5 mil and show out in college and make 5-8 mil in 3 years.

I like that the draft is after the postseason now but I'm anxious for it to all happen and still have to wait 2 months.

Good group of MIFs. You think the two local SS, Safford and Holt, will see any opportunities?
