I think CJJ brings in another MIF (great glove) to add depth or start. LSU now has at least 5-6 options at starting pitchers with transfers and incoming freshmen. Also, it looks like our catching talent went up a notch or 2 with Neal and Jones aboard and a healthy Milazzo. LSU should be able to hit 1-9 this year.
Yep, on paper it looks great just at least one more good MIF and LSU will be a handful to deal with this year!
Can't wait!

Up the middle defense has to get better at C SS and 2B to get to Omaha
The inconsistency defensively of those 3 positions last year cost LSU a chance to host which makes it a lot easier to advance

Agree somewhat.
The lack of starting pitching had more to do with not hosting or making a further run in postseason than what you mentioned in my opinion.
I thought the issues in order from most relevant to least last season was:
1. SP
2. C
3. MIF
The 2 most important parts of it to me was definitely handled between transfers and HS signees. The 3rd was attempted but didn't have the luck we needed.

Agree. We addressed two of the three major issues. It’s not perfect but hopefully Thompson plays better like he did toward the last third of the season. I still think we need to get 1-2 more infielders for depth. One thing that will help is better pitching which could reduce errors in the field.

This can’t be stated enough. Better starting pitching makes the defense better as a whole. Limit the chances you limit the errors.

Remains to be seen but I think the starting pitching going forward will be fine!

If it's worse than last year then something went terribly, terribly wrong.
Our weekend rotation literally contained two converted relievers, and, while I liked Hilliard during his time here, we had a weekend starter that wasn't hitting 90. If you want to count Dutton as well, we have six freshmen pitchers coming in 100 ranks higher in their class than Dutton was in his class
There's a good chance we'll have at least one projected first rounder coming out of the bullpen

Remains to be seen is correct. If Hurd is healthy to pair with Skenes, we're going to be just fine. Otherwise, you're still projecting on a 2nd and 3rd starter. We all like so and so, and so and so had a good summer, etc. So and so will have to be better than last year if they're going to be our #2. Otherwise, we could be looking at alot like we had last year - a Friday guy that gives us a chance, then piecing the rest of the weekend together.

I just think they will have entirely too many options between a lot of guys capable of going 5-7 IP to not hasve at least 3 guys step up and produce. That is the difference on the 2 seasons. Last season it didn't seem like we had enough options to stretch out. Just a lot of good options that can give you 3 IP max.

I was going to say, With Skenes coming in it gives me great confidence we'll have at minimum a very good rotation between all the options we'll have beyond him.
Even if Thatcher Hurd isnt able to go due to his pars defect issue, I think we got plenty of not only viable but good options to make a solid rotation. Basically I Think the difference in our rotating being potentially very good/elite to solid is if Hurd is able to pitch or not.

He committed to ULM. Along with Davis Meche from Mississippi St/Barbe.
But I wouldn't mind Sheets on our roster.
I was also looking at HS kids from Louisiana committed to JUCOs, there is one from West Monroe but I don't know how good he is.

I wouldn't mind either of them. They're both LHH infielders, just like Jay wants them.

I’m starting to feel like we may see movement on Nippolt soon.
Posted on 8/3/22 at 7:13 pm to ProjectP2294
I have to believe Jay has more feelers than just Nippolt, and probably more feelers than infield. I wouldn't be surprised to see a pitcher or 2. He's been methodical in filling holes.
