650k minus federal and state taxes (32+%) = 430k
430k minus agent fees (5-10%) = 387k
Misc expenses (say 5% as a VERY conservative est) = 367k
Come home with 367k that doesn't include a car, clothes, retirement, other things.
I'm sorry but 367k is not Life Changing....it's a really good amount to get started.
That's cool math and all, but the kid signed for $1MM, so the $650K assumes most of the shite you said.

I make good money and that'd be life changing to me. Anything that would allow you to pay off your house makes it life changing.
As John Goodman in The Gambler said, pay off the house and you get to an operating position of f*ck you.

Definitely not. The comment I made though that apparently pissed some off was that 650k net was not life changing money.
I should have been more sensitive and considered that maybe for Kennedy it is. I don’t know his situation and maybe that is a life changer for him.
I was speaking from a different perspective than others apparently. I apologize for offending anyone. I’m grateful for the freedom to share my views on this board and in no way meant to impose my views on others and their life circumstances.
In my humble opinion, 650k is not life changing money. I do understand that for some it is and I fully support Kennedys decision to take that offer and begin his pro career. I meant no ridicule of the kid nor did I mean to offend anyone who holds a different perspective than my own.
I love y’all. Geaux Tigers

Looking back to your comment, it was other people that added the life changing thing. Your comment was about the perceived strength of his commitment compared to what seemed like a comparatively low bonus to pull him away. And I agree with it.

The 650K was net.(1mil before taxes).
And yes…..that is life changing money.

I just don’t how anybody outside of multi millionaires and up could say 650k take home isn’t life changing. Life changing doesn’t mean set for life it simply means it makes a big impact. You are telling me the ability to completely pay for a nice house, car, wipe out any small debt like credit cards and still put 50K-100k in the bank while not having to worry about notes on the house or vehicle isn’t life changing? You are either a legitimate OT baller or delusional lol. I’m leaning towards the latter.

Ya know Noot had one more round to go and we wouldn't be talking about if we might lose him but no... the shitty Brewers had to take him in the 19th rd and as a fan base we have to sweat this out until after the 1st.
It makes me want to get Noot to LSU even more, frick the Brewers! I hope they never sniff a playoff.

I think that's the key, "set for life" vs. life changing-- which really is the whole argument-- what's the best way to get "set for life". 1st round money is basically set for life unless you're just dumb with it in which case no amount of money may be set for life. 650k is life "changing" money but if you don't invest it in anyway, flame out from baseball after a few years, and don't have any type of education established, you're basically going to be at the same place in your late 20's that most non-pro athletes are coming out of high school at 18, which is trying to make a living to survive however possible.

Bingo. Thanks man. Seems a few folks went to the left with it

Ok it’s life changing money. Feel better?
You missed my point and instead want to argue over the operative definition of a phrase that’s very much subjective.
Hope you feel better now.

Can Jobert still sign an udfa contract, or has he announced that he's coming back yet?
Posted on 7/28/22 at 6:58 pm to GMoney2600
He hasn't announced his intentions yet
Posted on 7/28/22 at 7:00 pm to DRock88
Sounds like Jobert, Noot, Carter Young, & Skenes are the 4 names we're waiting to hear something on.
Posted on 7/28/22 at 7:05 pm to GMoney2600
Naptime mentioned that Jobert fielded calls on day 2 and turned down the offers. It’s possible UDFA offers could be more than what he was offered then, but not likely.
