The whole lineup could run for the most part

Are we talking stealing bases?

Crews, Thompson, Dugas, and Stevenson could. Morgan was hurt.

Berry, Jobert, Pearson, Doughty, and McManus were never ones that had a green light whenever they wanted.

There's a reason they were last in stolen bases.

The issue is if you cant steal at an 80ish % clip, it probably isnt worth it. So you need some pretty elite speed/stealing bases quickness/anticipation. I think crews (and who you prob dont wanna risk stealing), pearson, and thompson are your best bets. And pearson is usually ij with your big guns coming up.

I’m looking at 60 times on perfect game right now and I apparently I can’t recognize speed through a tv screen worth a shite.

I had no idea that Dugas and Pearson are actually faster than Crews. At least according to their PG 60 times.

To be fair those times are regularly when these kids are sophomores and juniors in high school and Crews is an alien.

Yea I was trying to find when they were timed but I haven’t had any luck.

They have Thompson as a 6.70 and I would think he’s faster than that now

Yea, the coaches philosophy. Bb, K, 3R Homer

Doughty & Pearson can both run, on top of the other guys you listed

LSU went from attempting 75 bags last year to 30 this year

lol quiet down Little Gearl.

Outside of Crews, the starting lineup didn't have base-stealing speed for shite, hence why Jay didn't steal bases.

Since Crews hits everything on the screws, he was rarely going to make an infielder rush to get him out at 1st. Everyone else never came close to making infields aware of their plate-to-first speed.

No jackass as mentioned before and straight from cjj’s mouth he doesn’t favor stealing bases when he has the bats that he had/has

Yet LSU was 2nd in sac bunts, only behind Vanderbilt, a team that actually had speed on the basepaths.

But muhhh Jay Johnson doesn't play small ball!

Yea, this probably had a lot more to do with it. We had a team built on power, there is no point in risking being thrown out trying to steal when your 7 hole had 18 hr. Jay will continue to recruit power guys, but if you gave him a 2017 LSU team that is straight OBP and no power I bet they steal a ton.

No, dumbass, as mentioned before and straight from CJJ's mouth...he plays a style of baseball that fits the team.

His Arizona team in 2016, which he brought to the CWS finals, led the league in stolen bases by a longshot. They also led the league in runs, hits, doubles and triples.

Yes, the 2022 LSU team had bats, which was a reason for the lack of steals. The lack of base stealing speed, which is not just how fast a kid runs their 60, was clearly evident.

Since you know everything, you should ask Jay why his 2016 CWS title-appearance team stole so many bases when they led the league in almost every hitting category.

He'll probably just tell you all he cares about are walks and HRs...right???

What does that have to do with you not knowing this team’s speed?

Crews is a guy I would run with more often than Jay did last season, but he was also protected really well in the lineup basically all season with Berry or Doughty usually behind him.

Still He had a combined 105 singles, BBs and HBP. And he attempted 7 steals being successful on 5 of them

In his freshman year Crews had 94 combined singles, BBs and HBP...and he attempted 15 steals being successful on 12 of them.

He's a guy you can absolutely run with. Morgan too, he was 16 for 21 his freshman year in steals, and attempted just 1 all season this year too. Again though was usually protected very well in the lineup.

I wouldnt hesitate to run with both those guys way more than we have. I think Dugas has great speed but poor instincts maybe in base stealing which is why he's never done it. Stevenson and Pearson would be interesting to see run more, they have speed, but do they have the instincts, no idea. Pearson stole 23 bases in 28 games in his summer league last year, but steals usually run rampant in a lot of summer leagues with who knows who you have catchers and no chemistry between the pitchers and catchers, etc...

Stevenson stole 5 bases in like 2 weeks when he got to summer ball. He's attempted 0 here. Our leading base stealer attempted a whopping 7 in 62 games. It's not that we didn't run much. We basically didn't run at all. Gio stole 2 bags. Two. T-W-O.

Bregman was like a 6.80 runner, who granted, had great instincts. Stole like 40 one year

Gio 6.45
Josh Pearson 6.51
Crews 6.63
Doughty 6.66
Stevenson 6.68
Thompson 6.70
