selling point to develop under him instead of the much lesser coaching they would get under high A ball as rookies.

I like this. Every pitcher in our signing class needs to up their asking price.

Below are quotes from Hawgville. Crazy Johnson pulled this off.

quote:

“But on the topic of Wes Johnson - how the hell did LSU do this...an mlb pitching coach from a team first in the division, mid season?”

“They just landed the best pitching coach in the country. He was a director with the Twins as well. The MLB guys are stunned.”

“Damn wish we had offered 3x then. This is definitely a problem.”

“Wes is an Arkansas guy. This one hurts”

“The only positive thing I see here for Arkansas is at least he is returning to the college game... which means he could someday take over our program when DVH retires. I wasn't sure we'd ever see him leave the pros once he got there.”

“He's the most dynamic coach I've ever seen in baseball. Literally every pitcher will run through a wall for him. He's a better version of Vitello.”

“Just hired Wes Johnson as their pitching coach. They are unfortunately crushing this off-season.”

“That's a problem. Much bigger problem than their portal recruiting.”

“Blockbuster hire to say the least. Jealous on this one.”

“Damn.. I wanted Wes to come back home..”

I saw a Tweet today from Kiley McDaniel talking about Vandy getting one of their top recruits to pull their name from the draft. There was reference to the stacked classes for Vandy and LSU and he talked about those teams trying to get their guys to commit to school before the draft.

I do wonder if we can get some guys to do this before the draft to remove the doubt. I was thinking about this even before the coaching hire today. Maybe they can lure a few more arms to campus.

The draft should be this weekend. What a sham we still have to wait over 3 weeks

Grant Taylor had a good outing yesterday:

5 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 6K

He's thrown 8 IP in two appearances. Has a WHIP of 1.0.

Agree, the problem is they didn't move it for college baseball to not worry about it until after the CWS. They don't really care what the college coaches have to deal with, they just trying to make more money on moving it with MLB All Star weekend.

If he can learn to keep command of his pitches that will be great. Seems like his struggle came later in the season with walks and when he threw strikes it was in the center of the plate and getting hit around.

Anybody got any info on Cale Lansville? I wasn’t sure what his injury was but was hoping to follow his summer development, if he is playing.

He's not on any rosters that I could find. And there's been zero news about his injury.

I don’t think they realize that the baseball draft will never be viewer friendly. It’s very much a niche thing that isn’t very exciting. Your team drafting a high school kid from Tennessee that won’t make it to the MLB for 5 years isn’t moving the needle for most people.
