Project,
Any really good pitchers can we expect to make it to campus?

I feel confident that Kudrna won’t make it.

Everything else seems up in the air.

I'm going to say you can put Jack Merrifield from LSU-Eunice down as a commitment.

Pretty sure Merrifield plays 2nd base. Can we get McDonald too off that squad?

I’ll add him tomorrow.

McDonald is going to Dallas Baptist.

Unknown, but based on how well he's done at LSUE, and the fact that he's probably coming on TOPS, and the fact that you can keep 40 guys, and the fact that it's really likely at least one of Cranford, Bianco and Safford will be transferring out, yeah - I would expect the new coach would honor it.

Most of the coaches they're talking to are pitching-oriented. That would suggest a likelihood of Nolan Cain sticking around and being the pitching coach (if the head coach is the real pitching coach then Cain is really just there to assist him and learn from him), and if that's the case Cain will likely stick around as the recruiting coordinator and his recruits will mostly stick around as well.

Cain's recruiting is likely going to result in his being kept around.

Unless we hire a coach who comes from a hitting background and he's got to bring in an ace pitching coach. I don't know that Cain is ready to handle an SEC staff without expert supervision by a head coach.

Godwin and Heefner are hitting-oriented coaches. McDonnell, Bianco, O'Sullivan, Corbin and Casey are pitching-oriented, unless I have that wrong.

Merrifield's commitment puts us at 53/40 for next year's roster.

I will start a thread on the rant some time today to track the roster transition for the offseason.

Merrifield and Jobert might supplant some guys in our current lineup!

McDonald is headed to Dallas Baptist.

Merrifield is very good at 2B but can play anywhere.

Merrifield hit 0.400 for the year and makes hard/consistent contact as well as any hitter I have seen. The SEC will be a step up for sure but I see no reason why he will not continue to square balls up and make plays in the infield.

Jobert hit .394 w/ 71 RBI and 16 bombs for Delgado. So he could be a player for us too!

Pretty sure he only struck out around 15 times in over 50 games. That’s the biggest thing this lineup needs. Put him in the 2 hole behind crews.

Yes, VERY difficult hitter to strike out! I could see him being a strong two hole hitter at that level. Not a ton of pop (some), but hard consistent contact with very little swing and miss.

Don’t know how he will pan out here but the difference in the pitching he faced this year to SEC pitching is like daylight and dark. Doesn’t come close in comparison

Wyeth hit .433 the year before coming to LSU. I don't think we know if they can carry that hitting into the SEC until they actually get here.
