Exactly. And now even when you’re on a roster lol.

That’s just what it is. I know my perspective on all this has sure changed. It’s a pleasant surprise when you get kids like Berry and Francis and Lafleur who just didn’t want to be anywhere else or so it seems based on visits and lack thereof to other places following their commitments, but those guys are the exception. For the most part this just free agency now with a year round tampering period.

“I’m not happy with my offer, I want more, and I’m open to the highest bid.”

I say go prove it on the field next year and we’ll revisit things in the final week of the cycle. Just don’t let your agent over play your hand. The longer term still matters.

Hilarious to call himself underrated and mention his recruitment while being committed to one of the largest programs in college football. It doesn’t actually have anything to do with recruiting, it’s just trying to get all the big players to start bidding now.

Bingo. And as someone said, at least he’s letting us know now so we can evaluate him to see if he’s worth increasing the offer as signing day approaches rather than leaving us hanging.

I’m not worried about the DL one bit with Bo on duty! Bo knows!

“I’m better than yall think”. Who is yall? And what is this referencing, skill or the offer?

I’m not for letting the states best leave, but certain characteristics have proven to be a huge red flag.

If there's one thing I've learned is that HS talent is still good but the transfer portal is where you wanna spend the bulk of NIL. The more portal players that perform devalues HS demands. You build the core of your team with players who wanna be here and fill depth with mercs.

Ok, good. Glad he’s proved this against top notch SEC offensive linemen. Pay this man his worth!!!

I wait until after signing day to get excited about recruits. I follow them to learn about them, but I hold off on excitement until then.

There is value in investing in HS talent if they are going to stick around and develop. Otherwise, someone who is older and has bee in a S&C program as well as played D1 snaps is going to be surer ROI. Definitely need both but need to also need to distinguish who the Zalence Heard's are going to be and focus elsewhere.

Why pay big money for an unproven player regardless of stars, use that money on the porter for a proven player instead. That big money high school kid might not be with the team next season, it’s just the NIL era.

Meh. In some rare cases which is why I said keep recruiting. Who did Underwood speak glowingly off on Michigan’s staff? Maybe I missed that. If relationships were so important the portal wouldn’t be this active bro. Kids have no issue leaving behind those relationships they committed to in the first place do they ?

Only a small number of 5 star recruits are getting that kind of treatment and those kinds of deals. We identified three of them (Curne will be an 5 star) and gave them what was required to keep them. But with Pickett for instance, having Raymond here mattered. The money obviously mattered too, and it was likely a top priority that we match his minimum number, but do you really believe we were the highest bidder for him? If we weren’t, and I don’t believe they we were, then why did he sign here?

We all know there are mercenaries who are just about chasing money. Then there are kids who will narrow down to a few schools and actually do care about relationships, but will play the game to get the highest number from them. There there are the rare ones who might actually care about winning, playing close to home, etc.

Relationships will still matter a good deal for many of the rank and file 3 and 4 stars, and they end up making up anywhere from 25-50% of a class from year to year. And we are already paying competitive or better rates for them, anyway. It’s the five stars especially, and the top 100-150 players where the games really get insane.

Because the pool of established players that are proven is pretty small and fluctuates year to year. There are a lot of guys in the portal who are unproven and left because they couldn’t get on the field, or have been asked to leave. Then there are guys who got in trouble or had issues with their previous staff. Then you have guys from the lower P4 and G5 looking to move up, but you don’t always know how they will translate. If you build the bulk of your roster from the portal, you could end up with a bust of a team that immediately quits on you, like FSU this year.

If you want to have any depth, you still have to put a lot of time, effort and money into high school recruiting. Look at the top 6 teams in the playoffs- ALL of them have been recruiting at a consistently high level over the last 3-5 years. That’s still how you build a real program. Then you use to portal to fill holes with experience.

We are fortunate because LSU is sitting on a gold mine in Louisiana. There are a lot of kids who grow up wanting to play for LSU and the state generates enough talent to keep this program stocked as long as we handle our business. The current staff is heavily invested in in-state recruiting, so we should always be able to recruit at a top 10 or better level.

So no commitment just like today’s world of greed.
Too bad because he can be an impact player.

At least he is honest about it.

Instead of committing and then using it as price raiser.

I appreciate this tweet. Honestly, the lack of transparency is damaging the relationships we've formed throughout his recruitment. So please understand if we bring in other players and don’t focus as much on you.

if our coaches have even a tad of self respect, they are going to tell this kid to decommit and take his visits and commit once he is comfortable and not publicly expressing his intentions.

As soon as a kid says this, LSU should retort with “as are we”

Yep. That’s why I said you keep recruiting. Just know that this new dynamic exists and will only become more prevalent. Adjust accordingly
