To answer your question,
The top qb right now is Grant Gunnell from TX. He just decommitted from TAM and is visiting again this weekend for a day. Others on the board are Cornelius Brown, Jayden Daniels, Paul Tyson, Michael Johnson, and the kid I mentioned above, Taisun Phommangnh(sp). Top instate is Lance LeGendre(sp). Gunnell is the push right now. We likely try to take 2
RB books down to 3 kids currently. Noah Cain, IMG by way of TX, John Emery from Destrehan(I think), and Tyrion Davis from Southern Lab who's committed. Those are by and large the targets though we do have other offers out. Not a ton though. Some interesting kids. Perfect world, we sign Emery,Cain and Davis. That's the top class in the country. I think we land 2 of them and maybe try to add a 3rd if the right guy and numbers allow. Also may take into account the '20 class, who's in it and who we feel good about.
CB has 2 we want instate, Derek Stingley and Devin Bush. Both top 10 corners, with Stingley #1 for now. Other than them we have Maurice Hampton from TN committed. He may be a S or nickel but right now he's slotted at CB. Also have a few other instate kids that lack one attribute or another but could earn a spot. Likely we aim high OOS with the top TX kids tops on the list. Bobby Wolfe and Erick Young are the 2 we have been closely associated with. They are TAM for now but its February before they sign so we shall see. We will inevitably link to a FL kid or 2(Raymond loves those FL kids) at some point and I'm sure some others. Onei personally think to keep an eye on is Chris Steele from CA. He's already visited and if the staff really fights to be there at the end, we've got a shot. Those CA kids are tough to pull but many of them are truly enamored with the SEC. We are DBU and it's the biggest brand sell we've got. Sell it.

QB 1-2

Offers
Grant Gunnell TX
The top guy right now.
Paul Tyson AL
Bear Bryant's grandson of some sort. Presumed Bama lock.
Grahm Mertz KS
Wisconsin commit. Gotten some nice offers lately
Bo Nix AL
Auburn commit
Michael Johnson JR OR
Big time kid. Oregon his presumed leader but he's pretty open
David Baldwin FL
CA kid playing at IMG. Has gotten some solid offers lately

Others
Cornelious Brown AL
LSURB legend Talented kid.
Taulia Tagovailoa AL
Tuas little bro. I'm not sure he's on Tuas level but many do. Presumed Bama lock but can they land he and Tyson. I think that can but the may slow play one
Jayden Daniels CA
Pushing elite in terms of interest. Better get moving with him if we want a shot
Taisun Phommachanh CT
Intriguing kid that is starting to get interest from heavy hitters including us. We have a shot to impress him early if we go now
Kenneth Jefferson MS
Good stats. Dont know much beyond that
Lance LeGendre LA
Kid from Warren Easton. Getting some midlevel offers and has one of those faux Bama offers we all love so much

Basically it's Gunnell or bust at the moment. I think we will try to take 2 so get Gunnell and then move to secondary guys. Pick the one you want and go for it. Or bring 4-5 into camp and let them decide who the best guy or guys are.

This class is reminiscent of the 2001 class that Saban needed to get on track to where he led LSU and to begin building his legacy. This situation reminds me of that season in regards to how important it will be in Orgerons success or failure at LSU. He hauls in a top class, the type class he should, and his future will look bright. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Marquise Hill, Marcus Spears, Andrew Whitworth, Ben Wilkinson and Michael Clayton had decided to spurn LSU and go elsewhere. Yea, I agree, this class will determine Oregeron's fate at LSU.

Let's assume we get everybody in La. we want. Does that permit us to catch up with Ga. and Ala. or do we still fall behind.
Looking at commitments already for Ga., it looks to me like the latter. They are knocking the lights out in Athens and Saban always seems to get what he wants....
Yes, I know, lots of time left. For everybody.

We need to heavily recruit 4 qbs. Gunnel seems like foster to me. He wants the attention but has no intention of coming to LSU. Recruit Louisiana 2 top qbs and 2 out of state. Hopefully you reel in 2 qbs in 19 and 20 class.

Agree I'd even go a step further and target all we can and try to get them on campus. Qb recruiting is unlike any other position. Kids can commit quickly and there are only so many top spots to go. We have to present ourselves as one.

We want 2 so keep putting pressure on Gunnell and start vetting other kids that aren't opposed to a 2 man class. If Gunnell doesn't want to be a 2 man class guy then let that be his choice. He's not so elite that he can't be recruited over. The stuff about his dad is really making noise lately and I don't care for that. Admittedly don't know the truths and falses of that though.

Hope we get Gunnell, but look at the film on the kid from Easton. Wow what an arm. One of the videos show him throwing the ball about 75yrs. Could be a sleeper.

Does anyone know where I can find video of Sonnier where he is actually playing DE. I've only found video of him playing QB or WR. His height is interesting but he just doesn't look very athletic. I can't see him at LSU unless they completely bomb on other targets. IDK who rated him a 4 star but it must be from something I have yet to see. At QB he's a 3 at the very best. Just can't see him a 4 star DE with his lack of athleticism. He'd need a couple years in the weight room and some size to be an SEC DE.

I think the board is so loaded and the fact we dont need huge numbers(4 likely) Sonnier is waaaay down if on it. MS, TX, AL, GA and FL have loads and loads of DL this cycle, especially DEs with real size. I'd vet those first and come back. MS has like 4-5 DEs in the 6'4-6'5 250-260 range that are all 4* or close. We are hound to land 1

Yea, it's a good year all over the country. I mean, even if LSU looses a highly rated player or two from instate there's plenty in other states to replace them. That being said, I'd much rather have the Louisiana guys go to LSU than out of state. I don't concern myself as much with losing WR's or DB's from Louisiana to out of state schools as I do linebackers and linemen, this state is going to produce a lot of quality WR's and DB's that losing one or two won't hurt as much as losing the big hogs up front.

Lance LeGendre LA

Your not kidding that it's Gunnell or bust at the moment. Perhaps there's wisdom to redshirting Brennan so we can get four years out of the the three that we've got.
